My Weekend (Wedding) Crush
Soccer stars Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis got married on New Year’s Eve and the party looked amazing and amazingly gay. The Aussie and American national team players’ nuptials also landed them a glossy photo spread in Vogue Australia, which is pretty cool considering the land down under only legalized marriage equality eight years ago. (Don’t get on your high horse, America, we’ve only had it two years longer.) I truly believe that the media helping to normalize our everyday lives – because we are just normal human people who fall in love, get married, raise kids, go to work etc. etc. etc – has been key to the gains LGBTQ+ people have made toward full civil rights. Which comes from the hard work of activists over the years demanding their basic rights and moving culture forward. But, as always, those who wish we didn’t exist and were never seen remain relentless. So congrats to Sam and Kristie, the happy couple and new masc/femme wedding dream board inspo role models for sapphics everywhere.
But, seriously, how cute are they? And the tux? Low whistle.
Mazel tov, ladies. Happy weekend, all.
p.s. Posting wedding videos? See, gays really are just like everyone else.

Lesbian Soccer Mom Central
While I’m on a roll, how about even more joy? Soccer stars Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis are having a baby! The sporty couple (Sam plays for Chelsea and the Australian national team and Kristie for West Ham and the US national team) announced their engagement last year – also in November. They’ve been together since 2020, and famously confused a few fans by cuddling on the pitch after a USA/Australia World Cup match. Aren’t female friendships the best? I mean, it’s almost like they’re roommates. Anyway, congrats to the happy couple who in 2025 will become the very definition of soccer moms.

Boom Goes the Sam-o-nite
Here I go saying I don’t really follow sportsball and I go write about sportsball two days in a row. I contain multitudes, or something. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t give you all the end of the week boost you needed in the form of soccer star Sam Kerr absolutely decking a dumbass who ran onto the pitch. Like you can see her track, drop the shoulder and BOOM.
Like, you can practically hear the “splat” sound he made as she flattened him.
I particularly loved all the people screaming “Wanker!” at the pitch invader. If only he’d also been wearing a No. 9 jersey. As awesome as it was to see Sam (a.k.a. notable on field gal pal of Kristie Mewis) bring the hurt on an idiot who deserved it, it’s frustrating to know that a) she got a yellow card for her troubles, and b) the pitch invader wasn’t even arrested because it’s only a crime in UK law to crash a MALE professional soccer match. Cool, cool, cool.Who else feels like body checking the world right now? Yeah, thought so.
