I’m excited about this movie for a few reasons including but not limited to that Angela is a talented director (“D.E.B.S.” remains campy fun and you know it), she knows her way around a lesbian vampire (hello, “True Blood” much), and this means I can watch “The Hunger” without my residual distaste for all things Susan Sarandon (no, ma’am, Trump and Clinton were emphatically NOT exactly the same). I’m always a sucker for a lesbian vampire, no matter how bad the movie (and, kittens, “The Hunger” was not good), so I hope this movie can give us the lesbian vampirism we deserve. Or at least a chance for me to watch the O.G. lesbian vampire movie concept without she whose name will not be spoken again. What? If immortal lesbian vampires can be a thing I can hold a grudge for five years and counting no problem.

A New Hunger
In an effort to keep the first week of Pride as queer as possible (AQAP for future reference) here at Surrenders, here’s some more good gay news. Remember when I said Angela Robinson had inked a production deal with Warner Brothers? Well the first fruits of that appear to be ripening as Angela is in talks to direct a remake of “The Hunger.” Yes, that “The Hunger.” The movie that started the whole sexy lesbian vampires thing. The movie with Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon and David Bowie (because why not also have David Bowie).

Gender Fuck Thursday
I will fully admit to not understanding the whole mustache meme. What’s that all about? Why does everyone have a big black fake Mr. Pringles stache all of a sudden? Kid these days. I don’t really get it. Of course, my father had a full mustache and beard for basically all of his life, so maybe I just associate it with dad things and not the apparent old-timey whimsy it’s supposed to imply. Or maybe I’m just old curmudgeony, instead of timey. What can I say, I’m just a sucker for some soft, smooth skin. Still, on Catherine Deneuve I will accept any and all facial hair. And a bowler. And a bowtie. And cufflinks. Sweet fancy Moses, I love cufflinks. Though, other than Catherine, staches just aren’t my jam. (That is what the youths are calling it, no?) I dunno. But I do know that while we may have to agree to disagree on fake facial hair, I hope we can all agree that a lady in menswear will never go out of style. Plus, she has the added bonus of never having to worry about – shall we say – unfortunate mustache tickle. And, to make amends for dissing the old-timey mustache, how about some old-timey black and white gender fuck.[Hat tip, Jennifer for the delightful Deneuve photo above.]
Isabella Rossellini
I used to have a real thing for double-breasted suits. I mean, the name alone.
Zoe Saldana
Shoulder pads, on the other hand, I never had a thing for. But all of a sudden I don’t mind so much.
Anne Hathaway
Proper tailoring is critical to allow movement. Yay, tailoring.
Milla Jovovich
Not everyone can pull off all white. Luckily Milla is not everyone.
Vanessa Paradis
However, everyone should have a lounging around tuxedo. It should be, like, a rule.
Gemma Arterton
Seriously, I think this lounging around tuxedo rule could be revolutionary.
Monica Bellucci
Admit it, most of your wildest dreams aren’t nearly this delicious.
Jessie Matthews, “Just a Girl” (1935)
Now this kind of old-timey has my full endorsement.

SGALGG: Blame it on the Riviera
Monday. Work. Blah. So instead, let’s transport – if only briefly – to the south of France. A place where the carpet is red and the stars are beautiful. Before I leave this mortal coil, I would like – if only just once – to attend the Cannes Film Festival. It seems rather glamorous and extravagant, to conditions I normally try to avoid at all cost. But there’s just something so lovely about the way the movie stars look bathed in the flash of bulbs in the French Riviera. It’s just irresistible. Also irresistible, a little Cannes SGALGG. Ladies. Together. Yum. Happy Monday, mon petit chou.Eva Longoria & Aishwarya Rai
Somehow these ladies became special friends at Cannes this year posing not once, but twice together. France is magic that way.
Naomi Watts & Lucy Punch
The two ladies co-star in Woody Allen’s latest, “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.” I’m not sure if I’ll see the movie, but I know I’d love to see Naomi plants one on Lucy, like she appears to be about to here.
Evangeline Lilly & Michelle Yeoh
Don’t these two look like they’re going to run off together and elope? Hey, what can I say, I have a very active imagination.
Nicole Laliberte & Haley Bennett
I have no idea who these two women are, but no additional imagination is needed to turn this SGALGGy. None at all.
Cate Blanchett
This is an entirely different kind of SGALGG – Straight Gal Acting Like a Gorgeous Gal. Which, of course, Cate is.
Catherine Deneuve
Anytime you can post a picture of Ms. Deneuve, you should. Period.

Women of a certain age rock
So, Susan Sarandon's 60th birthday yesterday got me thinking. We all know that Hollywood tends to treats women of a certain age as if they were invisible (or a potato sack...you decide which is better). But that doesn't mean we in the real world have to drink the Kool-Aid. Quite the contrary, I think we're in the midst of a renaissance of sexy sexagenarians. Consider these five lovely ladies, all over 60, all doing great work. And, might I add, looking damn good. Witness the above irrefutable photographic evidence (click to enlarge), all taken within the last year: Catherine Deneuve (62), Jacqueline Bisset (62), Helen Mirren (61), Diane Keaton (60) and Susan Sarandon (60). With age, comes wisdom. And with wisdom, often comes great beauty. Rock on ladies.
