Well, well, well. Now if this isn’t something, at long last last, to live to the spring for. Did that sound dark? Just you wait, you’ll feel a whole different kind of dark once you watch this. The trailer for “Mother Mary,” the Anne Hathaway/Michaela Coel “psychosexual pop thriller” about a pop star and her estranged former fashion designer lover, is finally here. And when I say finally, I mean a more than two and a half year wait. I have to say, I was surprised and mostly in a good way. No, I wasn’t expecting the glimpses of supernatural darkness and body gore, if that indeed is what we are seeing here. But I love the over-the-top “epic pop melodrama” operaticness of these clips. And the chemistry between Anne and Michaela, well, it’s good. I’d like to see a little more good chemistry between their lips. But, you know, I guess they have to save some stuff for the movie. My only worry, well, as the trailer says – I don’t know if they’re both gonna make it. But, goodness, will I be rooting for them.

Vacation Vixen: Michaela Coel

Have I mentioned how excited and impatient I am for “Mother Mary” starring Michaela Coel as a fashion designer in a relationship with a music superstar played by Anne Hathaway? Because, um, I am. Also it’s Tuesday, so you’re welcome.

Can you believe, as much as us gays rightfully love her, Anne Hathaway has never played gay? Sure she was in “Brokeback Mountain” and being in “The Devil Wears Prada” gets her free drinks at the gay bar for life. But on screen? Yeah, everyone’s favorite grown-up Theater Kid has never — at least that I can recall — made out with a lady for our pleasure on the large or small screen. Until, that is, now.

Anne has signed on to the new A24 film (that’s the studio behind “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “Moonlight”) alongside Michaela Coel of “I May Destroy You” and “Chewing Gum” fame. In it, the two women play lovers (but is either named Cindi — I know, that’s a deep cut) where “a fictional musician” (Anne) is in a relationship with an “iconic fashion designer” (Michaela). The film called “Mother Mary” is being described as an “epic pop melodrama,” and will have original music by Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff.

I’m pretty excited to see what this movie is all about, honestly. I think Anne and Michaela will make a stunning on screen pair. I am visualizing it now. I am happy about visualizing it now. I’ll be in my bunk until this comes out, I guess.
