So earlier this month Pink guest-hosted Kelly Clarkson’s show, and of course continued her grand tradition of killing it on covers. You all know “Time After Time” is one of my all-time favorites. So naturally how could I resist. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Owned By Anne
Wait, I’m realizing some of you may not have seen Anne Hathaway totally own Kelly Clarkson at her own game – and with her own song. What a delight from a simpler time (2022) back when movies about scamming billionaires seemed more quaint than the metaphorical locusts of our christofascist capitalist hellscape endtimes. But, yeah, this was cute. Ah, simpler times. Happy Monday, kittens.

Burial Beats
Fine, I kind of dig this song. Like, could Anne Hathaway's single "Burial" from her new film “Mother Mary” be a banger? You know, the movie where she plays a pop diva reuniting with her former fashion designer lover played by Michaela Coel. I appreciate the ethereal Lady Gaga schtick her character has got going on. Though, could we expect less from the Ultimate Theater Kid Anne “Les Miserables, Wrecking Ball and beating Kelly Clarkson at Kellyoke with her own song” Hathaway? No, you could not. Truly, the only thing I wish is that all these teaser and trailers showed Anne and Michaela being more gay together. More! Gay! Together! Now that, that’s truly, that’s my favorite song.

Music Monday: Joke's On Them
I’m going to see Brandi this weekend. This will be my second time seeing her, but my first since she became BRANDI FREAKING CARLILE. So, you know, that’ll be fun. I also hope that she plays “The Joke” and continues to dedicate it to the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team. Because, damn, do they deserve it. Happy Monday, kittens.

My Weekend Crush
MUNA is back and as queer as ever. In fact, did they get even gayer in the interim? Brava, you magnificent music makers, you. Also, hello, nonbinary bandmate Naomi McPherson going bare chested and Josette Maskin with the masc haircut and just so many tank tops. Maybe there is a Lesbian Jesus after all and she loves us. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: When Brandi Met Leisha
I never went to the Dinah, and never really wanted to, but I kinda do wanna go to Girls Just Wanna Weekend. Brandi Carlile’s annual sapphic music bacchanalia along the Mexican coast has only become bigger and cooler and gayer. OK, it’s always been pretty gay. But dueting with Leisha Hailey? And I guess The Chart really was right, because did you hear that Rose Garcia (of “The Real L Word” fame, lord, remember that show?) and her business partner purchased it from the original lesbian spring break’s founder Mariah Hanson (who has announced that 2025 would be the Palm Spring event’s last)? Anyway, where was I? Oh righ, it is always fun to remember that before Alice, there were The Murmurs. See, all roads lead to lesbianism. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Super Sapphic
I’m alive! Sorry, I’ve had an extremely (like crazy stupid) busy February for work. But I did make time to watch the Super Bowl, you know, to fill my once-a-year quota for straight male sportsball viewing. (Don’t worry, I’ve of course also been watching the Winter Olympics and will have some very queer thoughts about that this week.) Anyway, what I wanted to say about the Big Game – other than how much I’m looking forward to watching MAGA’s heads explode about Bad Bunny’s exquisite showcase of Latino Excellence during the halftime show – is how great it was to see Brandi Carlile sing “America the Beautiful.” Like, an out queer female icon (and wearing a suit and tie no less) invited to the biggest celebration of traditional heteronormative values. You just love to see it. Happy Monday, kittens. (Also, please say a prayer or whatever you do to ask the universe to be gentle for me, my crazy busy work February culminates later this week.)

Music Monday: The B&L Word
When I started to see clips of Leisha Hailey on stage with Brandi Carlile at the latter’s sapphic music lovers festival Girls Just Wanna Weekend, I thought maybe I was having strange lesbian feverdreams. But sometimes real life really is like queer Mad Libs. The singing Grammy gay icon with the used-to-sing/TV star/sang-again gay icon singing Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” together. While I never made it to the Dinah, I think one of these days I may just have to make one of Brandi’s weekends. I mean, just think of the iconic lesbionic onstage combinations to come. The mind boggles. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Hard Rain Falling
Released 63 years ago by Bob Dylan. Revived 37 years ago by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians for the Tom Cruise Vietnam War movie “Born on the Fourth of July,” Sung 10 years ago with haunting imperfection by Patti Smith at the Nobel Prize Award ceremony. I’d say it’s about time for a new artist to step in. Any takers, pop stars? Because the hard rain is falling, and we could all use some righteous music to help us find our way through it. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Rocking Robyn
This is the energy I want to carry into 2026 with me. You know, just 365 days of Robyn playing her first New York City shows in years to kick off the New Year energy. Plus the crowd dancing and singing in unison to every note. Stilettos and broken bottles, indeed. We may all be dancing on our own through life, but on those rare occasions we can connect with our fellow humans, we can dance all night together. Happy Monday, kittens.
p.s. Don't worry, we'll talk about them Globes a little later this week.

My Weekend Crush ICE Crush
I had another post planned for today. That can wait until next week. Instead I’ll just be singing this with my whole chest all weekend. In the first seven days of 2026 the United States of America has bombed Venezuela and kidnapped its leader, threatened to take Greenland by force and shot a woman in broad daylight for all to see. We are the bad guys. And it’s up to us, its everyday citizens, to denounce, protest and fight this administration in any and every way we can. What the federal government is doing is corrupt, unlawful and immoral. And we, the people, cannot let it stand. Fuck ICE. Fuck Trump. Fuck MAGA. Fuck billionaires. But this weekend especially, FUCK ICE. Plus, it’s a true banger. Happy weekend, all.

Music Monday: Silky Start
What if I told you there was a time when a group of sapphics went on national television and sang a song about how hot it is to be queer and makeout while dressed like prom kings/queens complete with tiaras? And what if I told you that was only four years ago? Ah, those were the days. Also, for some reason, James Corden had a national TV show then. Well, at least that’s over. So I guess the future really is better. Or, uh, parts of it still are.

My Weekend Winter Crush
No, I will never tire of this song. Especially not as long as it keeps being reincarnated like this recent acoustic version with Ingrid Michaelson and Broadway stars Jessica Vosk and Abigail Sparrow. The most hauntingly beautiful seasonal song remains haunting and beautiful, shepherding us back through another long winter's night. Happy weekend, all.

A Merry Little Christmas
For 2025, only the most melancholic Christmas song would do. And, well, you can never go wrong with Judy Garland. For all who celebrate, have yourself a merry little Christmas. May you find joy and merriment wherever you can today.

Cup of Brandi
Could you imagine strolling around doing your last-minute shopping and Brandi Carlile is caroling on the corner? It’s like a miracle on Lesbian Street. That’s a free one, Hallmark. I’ll be expecting it next year. Until then, merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate, and to all a good night.

Music Monday: Merry(ish) and Gay
I’m still trying desperately to get into that Christmas vibe. And if Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings can’t do it, no one can. Granted, we’re gearing up for a very rainy Christmas here in Northern California. But, hey, it could be worse I guess. At least we’re not among the soulless ghouls inhabiting the White House right now. Evil really does make you ugly, it’s the strangest thing. But joy, joy on the other hand is always beautiful.Happy Monday before Christmas, kittens (or, you know, just another Monday for all who don’t celebrate).

Music Monday: No Husbands Needed
I have been a Raye fan since, well, since “Escapism” came out right around the time my marriage broke up and it made me feel a little better about how I was handling everything. But, seriously, I remember thinking who is that? Who indeed. The Ghanaian-Swiss British singer is a consistent scene stealer. Remember her at those stacked Grammys earlier this year? I only didn’t mention her at the time because her music is so aggressively straight. You know, like her new hit, “Where is My Husband?” But, honestly, I don’t mind the heterosexuality. Because, kind of like Sabrina, it’s all about how terrible it is to have to date men. And that part feels deeply relatable. Poor straight ladies. Anyway, Raye has what i believe they call pipes and the whole retro glam soul thing she’s got going on is immaculate. I especially love when she wraps the mic cord around her neck like an old-school lounge singer. Anyway, please enjoy this certified banger with the grateful knowledge that sapphics like us don’t have to worry about where our husbands are – ever. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: More River
Welcome to December. We’ve almost made it out of 2025. Just three more years, eh? I wish I had many things this Christmas season – a non-racist, misogynistic, corrupt, felonious, rapist and all-around evil president would be one thing. And also the full-length version of Sarah McLachlan and Kelly Clarkson singing “River” would be another. Look, I didn’t say all the wishes were equal in priority. But, you know, while we’re wishing. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Truest Colors
I missed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions from a couple weekends ago. Yes, yes – I know I can probably stream it somewhere. But why go through all that effort when the algorithm keeps feeding me clips of my favorite inductee (no shade, love you too Salt-N-Pepa) this year, Cyndi Lauper, being, you know, amazing. Even in this bootleg, blurry live recording (I can't find an official full-length one), you can feel her power. Be the light. Happy Monday, kittens.
