Ms. Equal Rights

Well, now. Isn’t Cate Blanchett getting good at flexing her villain muscles? The trailer for the new FX miniseries Mrs. America has been released and, dammit, if Cate isn’t making me worried I’ll feel even the tiniest sliver of sympathy for Phyllis Schlafly - who clearly deserves none. The story chronicles the real-life fight over the Equal Rights Amendment, which in case you haven’t noticed still hasn’t passed. So, yeah, there’s that. The cast looks stellar with Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem, Uzo Aduba as Shirley Chisholm, Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug, Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan, and Elizabeth Banks as Jill Ruckelshaus. And, you know, I guess there are some straight white dudes in it too, or whatever.

It’s bonkers to think that here we are almost 50 years later and we’re still fighting the same culture wars. Women are still fighting for equality, as are POC and LGBTQ people and all other marginalized groups. The patriarchy just hums along, and cries bloody murder when anything threatens its precious power structure. Because, remember, to those accustomed to privilege, equality will always feel like oppression. But, as the rest of us know all too well, it is exactly the opposite.

Also, did I mention Sarah Paulson plays one of Phyllis’ friends (or, as it seems soon-to-be former friend)? Yes, lesbians, we have a real-life Carol and Abby BFF reunion.

Vacation Vixen: Uzo Aduba

Ugh, you know what’s harder than coming back from a holiday weekend? Coming back from an extended holiday weekend mini-vacation. So I’m just going to stretch a little, limber up the little gray cells, and get back into the non-literal saddle. See, Uzo knows how it is done. Rise and grind, kittens.

p.s. Whoops. Obviously I am way out of practice from my little break. Fabulous photo now attached.

Vacation Vixen: Uzo Aduba

If OITNB Season 4 isn’t at least 50 percent Crazy Eyes and her new girlfriend making out I will be very disappointed. The other 50 percent, of course, will be Poussey and Soso.

SGALGG: Emmys Edition

Well now, wasn’t that nice? Granted, most of the people I was rooting for the hardest – cough, Amy, cough, Tatiana – didn’t win. But, the good news is some very welcome things still happened at this year’s Emmy Awards. Historic and deserved wins for both Viola Davis and Uzo Aduba. Thrilling wins for “Transparent.” Also, way to go all the lesbians who won for “Olive Kitteridge.” Plus it’s now Emmy-winner Amy Schumer, thank you very much. Heck, I was even happy for Jon Hamm to finally get his statue, and I didn’t even watch “Mad Men.” But, of course, what you really want to know is – besides Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski – who made the ever prestigious Straight Gals Acting Like Gal Gals Emmy roundup this year. So, without further ado, and the winners are…

Gwendoline Christie & Queen Latifah

Next stop, the White Party at Dinah Shore.

Julie Bowen & Kerry Washington

Taking a selfie for their “In a Relationship” Facebook status update.

Amy Schumer & Allison Janney

To celebrate her win Allison decided to totally mack on Amy, and the other Amy totally approves.

Regina King & Taraji P. Henson

Clearly these two were caught mid-swoon.

Uzo Aduba & Taraji P. Henson

Of course, now Taraji has to explain to Uzo why she was swooning over Regina instead of her.

Maggie Gyllenhaal & Lena Headey

Discussing a “Secretary” remake, but with Lena in the role of the boss instead of creepy James Spader.

Viola Davis

Fine, so nothing particularly lesbian is happening here. But those arms are pertinent to your lesbian interests.

Tatiana Maslany

Again, nothing terribly lesbian is happening. But that suit is definitely a gift to lesbiankind.

Kate McKinnon

Something incredibly lesbian is happening here, and it’s fabulous.

Amy Poehler, Tina Fey & Jane Lynch

Jane looks like the chair of the welcome committee selling the newest arrivals on the benefits of living in Lesbian Town.

My Weekend Orange Crush

So if you’re a gay lady and were anywhere near the Internet yesterday you probably already watched the new “Orange Is the New Black” Season 3 trailer like 3,000 times – possibly more. You’ve also probably already made your food delivery order plans for June 12. But, hey, that’s still a long-ass way away (56 days and counting, yo) let’s go ahead and dissect everything we can from this first trailer. If we can process and argument about doing the dishes for a day and a half, we can certainly spare 15 minutes for this. Happy weekend, all.

1) They Got The Band Back Together

Taystee, Poussey & Black Cindy look thick as thieves again. Not that I’m saying they’re all thieves. Wait, wasn’t that what Black Cindy is in for? Anyway, metaphor withdrawn. I’m just happy they look so happy together again.

2) Big No

Oh, Big Boo. What? Butch down, BUTCH DOWN.

3) Major Headlights

You know you want to know exactly what Flaca told Maritza that made those nips stand at attention.

4) Turnabout Is Fair…

Yeah, Alex, we know how you’re back here. We know exactly how. Though, I am curious how she got that shiner.

5) Once Upon a Mattress

Hey, what happened to their mattresses?

6) A Rose is a Flirt

Look, I’m as much Pipex/Vauseman as the next gay gal, but I also approve of this Ruby Rose flirting. I approve very much.

7) Where’s the Beef?

Dammit, are Gloria and Sophia fighting? Can’t we all just get along?

8) Big Tucky? Pennsaboo?

I approve of this Big Boo/ Pennsatucky friendship. I really, really do.

9) Give Peace a Chance

Aw, man, Tank Girl and Piper are fighting, too?

10) Love Means Never Having To Say You’re Sorry for Hitting it With Two Other People and Aliens

Oh, Crazy Eyes, how I’ve missed you so.

BONUS: Man, after watching “Going Clear” I’m even less OK with Scientology, but damn, if Laura Prepon isn’t still on my “Free Pass” list. I can’t help it. Alex Vause can get it.

p.s. Yo, is that Vee in the background of No. 6? I was such a lesbian I did not notice because, you know, Ruby Rose.

On Wednesday We Wear Ruby

Stella Carlin. Learn that name. Learn it well. Because come this summer Piper and Alex are gonna be all over Stella Carlin. Probably. But, hey, can you blame them. New of Ruby Rose’s casting for the upcoming third season of “Orange Is the New Black” was welcome for several reasons. One, she is Ruby Rose and Ruby Rose is what I believe the kids today call ATTRACTIVE. Two, Ruby Rose is an out lesbian actress/model/VJ/DJ/tattoo enthusiast. Three, Ruby Rose’s character Stella is said to be a “lust object of both Piper and Alex.” Like I was saying, hey, can you blame them?

Netflix has confirmed that Stella will be a new Litchfield inmate “whose sarcastic sense of humor and captivating looks quickly draw the attention of some of Litchfield’s inmates.” Ruby has already been posting excited photos from the set, which makes me even more excited about the season. More same-sex attraction is always welcome, always. Look out, Pipex, someone just handed you a Rose. Also I cannot wait to hear what zingers Nicky has about tour new arrival.

SGALGG: Look at Those Golden Globes Edition

Please, like I’d let a Golden Globes go by without celebrating our favorite golden globes. Granted it was a tad bittersweet this time, as this will be the last year of the Tina & Amy hosting show. But at least Tina dressed up for the occasion. I’m pretty sure she put on the tux just so she could get into a Straight Gals Acting Like Gay Gals post. So I am only too happy to oblige. So here are some straight gals, and some gay gals, doing just that.

Robin Wright & Gillian Anderson
Most of my best dreams are nowhere near this good.

Oprah & Helen Mirren
And you get to touch some bosoms! And you get to touch some bosoms! And you get to touch some bosoms!

Gina Rodriguez & Ruth Wilson
I really hope they’re plotting world domination, because I would be super OK with them running things.

Cara Delevingne & Rita Ora
Totally over Michelle, I see.

Amy Poehler & Natasha Lyonne
Lesbian twin syndrome, activate!

Uzo Aduba & Taylor Schilling
Chocolate and vanilla swirl, swirl, swirl.

Sarah Paulson & Amanda Peet
Gay/straight lady BFFs. If only they’d make that into a movie. Wait, they already have?

Salma Hayek & Maggie Gyllenhaal
I saw several pictures of these two chatting very intently throughout the evening. Is it weird to be jealous of their conversation? Because I am.

Jill Soloway
Wonderful straight alley, wonderfully weird suit. Also, how wonderful were the wins for “Transparent?” So wonderful.

Julianne Moore, John Legend & Chrissy Teigen
This is for all the bisexual ladies in the house. Also, that’s a sandwich even I have to admit looks pretty tasty.

Lena Dunham, Jaime King, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez & Lorde have mercy that’s a lot of celebrities in one photo.
This reminds me of a Renaissance painting, but with more A-Listers.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
They’re clearly saying, “Please show yourself out. We’re about to make love until the sun comes up. We know you’d like to watch, but clearly you aren’t worthy. Goodnight.” What? Amy is the only person I will allow to touch my Fake TV Wife besides me. We have an arrangement (i.e. I get to watch).

We Wish You a Merry Litchfield

Twas the night before Christmas and Piper, Alex, Taystee, Big Boo, Crazy Eyes, Black Cindy, Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning), Nicky, Morello (Yael Stone), Gloria and Red hope visions of sugar plums are dancing through your head. And some other stuff, too.

p.s. Oh, look, an extended cut with out takes!

SGALGG: Emmys Edition

Piper & Alex 4EVA. God, I know I shouldn’t because of all The Reasons. But I just love seeing Piper and Alex together. Or, you know, Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon for those who insist on reality. I mean the way they look at each other – God DAMN. Too bad “Orange Is the New Black” got totally shivved by the Emmys. Still, it was fun to watch all the Straight (and Gay Gals) Acting Like Gay Gals all night long. Sure, all of the same people won again. But we won because, you know, amazing ladies looking amazing together. (Except that thing where the producers weren’t listening when Beyoncé taught the world about feminism and literally put a woman on a lazy Susan to turn while a man spoke. Ooof.)

Natalie Dormer & Lucy Liu
Whoa, suddenly I ship Moriarty and Watson.

Sarah Paulson & Lizzy Caplan
Ugh, now I ship this, too.

Angela Bassett & Jessica Lange
The Voodoo Queen and the Supreme together is the definition of bow down, bitches.

Allison Janney & Kate Walsh
I love these women. I do (have) not watch their shows. Counterintuitive, but true.

Amy Poehler & Julia Louis-Dreyfus
You know, I have nothing against Elaine Benes. But I want Leslie Knope to kick her ass and take her Emmys.

Claire Danes & Allison Williams
Angela Chase would never be friends with Marnie Michaels. You know that’s true.

Padma Lakshmi & Christina Hendricks
I want Padma to cook for Christina and then feed each other. I’m sorry, did I just say a fantasy out loud?

Lena Dunham & Uzo Aduba
Cast Crazy Eyes on “Girls” next. You know the whole OITNB cast is going on that show at some point.

Laura Prepon & Natasha Lyonne
Natasha is thinking about the time she and Prepon made out. Clearly.

Yael Stone & Lea DeLaria
Best Gay Prom Couple Ever.

Lauren Morelli & Samira Wiley
They are lesbians. They’re lesbianing together. Allegedly.

Sarah Silverman
Love the dress. Love the bare feet. Love that she beat a category filled entirely with men.

Lena Headey
Like I was going to leave her out. Pshaw.

Kate McKinnon
Love her. That’s all.

Laverne Cox
Love her, too. Now that’s all.

Alexandra Hedison & Jodie Foster
Those are the smirks of some very, very happy lesbian newlyweds.
