Music Monday: Truest Colors

Some things are just so pretty you want to shut up and listen. This duo of Cyndi Lauper and Kelly Clarkson on “True Colors” is one of those things. Now that’s how you start a week off right.

I had the good fortune to see Ms Lauper perform live at The Grove in southern California in the early 00's. When she sang this song she left the stage and moved through the room like a benevolent mother-goddess clasping outstretched hands, giving and receiving hugs, touching so many of us in so many different ways. She did all that while flawlessly singing True Colors and there was so much emotion in the room; it was the height of the Bush years and we were still dealing with accusations of The Gay Agenda, opposition to gay marriage, and generalized discrimination. We were used as a whipping post to fire up those who found anyone in the LGBTQ+ community disgusting and sinful.

But, for the duration of the song, Ms. Lauper made everything okay.

I loved the song ever since it first came out in the 80s and I love this duet with Kelly Clarkson. Thanks for sharing :)
