Tank Top Tuesday: Sweating with the Sapphics

I don’t know why, but Ilona Maher has been working out in tank tops with a bunch of sports sapphics and/or guestbian sapphics lately. Actually I do know why, it’s the Olympic medalist’s new digital series where she sweats with other athletes and celebrities. And some of her first few guests included Azzi Fudd, Amber Glenn and Laysla De Oliveira. So, for those keeping score at home – WNBA gay, ice skating gay and plays gay on TV (“Lioness” to be specific, which I don’t watch – but should I?) Anyway, as an avowed heterosexual (much to her own chagrin), Ilona certainly is playing to her fanbase with this lineup is all I’m saying. And in tank tops no less. Standard disclosure, the rules have always stated that sports bras count. Happy Tuesday.

Tank Top Tuesday: Amazing Lesbians Edition

So I guess I need to start watching “The Amazing Race.” I know, they’re entering season 39, so maybe I’m a little late. But now that soccer lesbians have joined the show, I think I can finally give it my full attention. US National Women’s Team and NWSL players Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman have joined the new season of the long-running adventure reality series. Now in case you were wondering, and the hair wasn’t already a giveaway, yes, Joanna is also a gay. Her Instagram bio includes the title “celesbian” (and lots of photos of her wife and their child – and rainbows). Anyway, I’m so glad Ali continues to live her best life (and is happily together with a new, better soccer lesbian). Guess I’ll have to record the new season and fast forward to the lesbian bits, per usual.

p.s. Also, just because it’s Tuesday and sports bras and muscle shirts are included in the Tank Top Cinematic Universe, here’s a little preview. Hopefully they packed for the race accordingly.

Tank Top Tuesday: Rebecca Ferguson Edition

Well, that settles it. I must be going through a Swedish ladies phase. Because I’ve developed a definite crush on Rebecca Ferguson. After her full-on sapphic-bait flirting at Comic-Con recently, I just can’t help it. She was always the best part of those last few “Mission: Impossible” movies (until those idiots killed her off). And she was bone-chillingly terrifying in “Doctor Sleep.” Also her “Silo” wardrobe appears to be predominantly tank top based. So, um, should I be watching “Silo” or what? I mean I’m already watching Rebecca in all her tank topped glory through the ages. So better late than never.

Girls Trip

Stoner comedies aren’t typically my favorite genre. But stoner comedies directed and starring queer female leads and talking cats? Spark that shit now! Let’s fucking go! I have no idea whether “The Wrong Girls,” starring Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat and written and directed by K-Stew’s wife Dylan Meyer will be any good. But I know I don’t care because, well, did I mention the talking cats? Also Kate McKinnon is also in this thing. We’re all going, just bring plenty of snacks for the munchies.

But halter dresses are in a gray zone, and it’s Megan Thee Stallion and Sarah Paulson. Happy last day of Pride, y’all! Have even more fun and be even gayer than these two at the Tonys. I know you can do it, kittens. I believe in you.

Tank Top Tuesday: Ava Daniels Edition

So about that final season. Granted, I started watching, got sidetracked, and then came back and binged the whole thing last weekend. So my view of the story arc might be skewed by my screwy viewing approach. Still, I’m happy for Ava. Like, if they had gone that other way, lord – what they have put that poor girl through just because she fell in (somewhat) platonic love with someone 50 years her senior. It’s a testament to Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder’s talent and chemistry that we cared at all about the continued misadventures of one of TV’s oddest couples. But care we did. The other great triumph of “Hacks” is the rise of Hannah and her refreshingly outspoken political activism. So shout out to our favorite “Supa Bi!” You’ve earned this, lady. (And thanks for the tank tops, though you had me worried for Deborah’s health with all the blood, girl.)

Tank Top Tuesday: More L

I mean if we’re going to honor lesbian tank tops during Pride, let’s post some of the OGs. And did you know THE Ilene Chaiken is writing fan fiction a new short story in “The L Word” universe? It's part of Ilene and Jennifer Beal’s Run-A-Muck, the media company also behind that wlw pro basketball rom-com. Admittedly, I haven’t signed up to read “The Long Story.” I don’t know how I feel about revisiting Bette and Tina’s continued adventures n this way. But, you know, I’ll certainly revisit the tank tops.

Tank Top Tuesday: Throwback Tanks

Man, since “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” Jamie Lee Curtis seems to be exactly that. She’s been on “The Bear,” she’s headlining the “Scarpetta” adaptation (which, I haven’t watched because Prime, but how is it folks?), and coming soon(ish) the new “Murder, She Wrote” reboot. But we remember her when she was a good ol’ OG Scream Queen. And. of course, those tank tops.

I mean, I feature Jodie in a tux, I gotta feature Jodie in a tank. Look, I don’t make the rules – fine, I totally make the rules. But since I’ve been feeling these throwback tank tops of late, how about we appreciate plain white tank Jodie circa my constant dreams. You’re welcome.

Tank Top Tuesday: Space Woman Edition

Am I about to be deeply shallow to someone who has been closer than any other woman – and all but three men on Earth – to the edge of deep space? Yes, yes, I am. And I am OK with that because, after all, I am just a lesbian woman. And I have eyes. And it is Tuesday. And those eyes acknowledge that NASA astronaut and Artemis II Specialist Christina Koch looks great in a tank top on this Tuesday and every day. And a flight suit. And even NASA’s standard issue dorky polo and khakis. Because, hello, forearms. Heck, we don’t even mind that she’s married to a man. We just know Christina got on a rocket to the moon and came back a lesbian icon. Science, baby!

I hope you were as inspired by Christina and the rest of the crew of the Artemis II as they splashed down on Friday. Humans can still do great things, we just need better leaders who will do great things with us. After seeing Christina make it around the moon and back, I would say I feel pretty inspired. The tank tops help, too. What? Lots of things can be inspiring.

Tank Top Tuesday: Legend Edition

Just because I was feeling nostalgic this week already, how about some vintage Helen Slater. Since that new Supergirl movie is coming out soon, how about our O.G. Supergirl. That of course led me to the “Legend of Billie Jean,” which as we all know is the root for ⅓ of all Gen X lesbians. Anyway it’s a Tuesday and yes, of course, that counts as a tank top.

Well I’m back. And I know one thing for sure. Vacation is better than not being on vacation. Also, tank tops are better than not tank tops. So, that’s two things. Yeah, that’s all I’ve got. OK, fine. These evening gowns are admittedly stretching the definition of tank top to their furthest extremes. But when Azzi Fudd (a.k.a. Paige Buecker’s Girlfriend) and Ilona Maher (a.k.a. Olympic Ruby Hottie) pose with their guns out together, you have to appreciate their armless appeal. Regardless of the style choices, I say thank you for the exposure – so to speak. Go sportsball*!
