All Amazon Island

Well, well, well. The DC Cinematic Universe giveth after its taketh awaying of the third “Wonder Woman” movie. Instead of another movie we’re getting a series about Themyscira. Yes, you read that right. A WHOLE SERIES JUST ABOUT THE AMAZONS. Commence hyperventilating and rending of garments (though, please let those garments be the original “Wonder Woman” movie warrior gear instead of Zack Snyder’s highly inconvenient on the battlefield midriff outfits).

The new series is described as such:

Paradise Lost: The duo describe this HBO Max series as a Game of Thrones-style drama set on the all-female island that is Wonder Woman’s birthplace, Themyscira, filled with political intrigue and scheming between power players. It takes place before the events of the Wonder Woman films.
Look, I believe not every new series moving forward needs to be a “Game of Thrones-style drama,” but right now I am obviously laser-focused on the “all-female island” aspect of the series. Like, I’m sure they’ll find some squirrely way to bring men to Themyscira. But, by its very nature, this show should just be wall-to-wall (or coast-to-coast, I mean it is an island) with awesome female warriors, period.

As this is a prequel of sorts to the films, I’m not sure if we’ll see Robin Wright as General Antiope or Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta. But I am totally on Team Antiope so I sure hope Robin returns for the new series.

As much as “Game of Thrones-style drama” means palace intrigue, another big reason GoT was an initial hit was good, old-fashioned sex and nudity. And while I’m not calling for an all-naked, all-sexytimes world of the Amazons, I am not not rooting for some all-naked sexytimes. Ahem. Just saying.

I also certainly hope the series deals head-on with how an all-female society is obviously FILLED WITH LESBIANS. Like no one is signing up to watch some bizarre good friends/roommates only island, m’kay?

Yesterday’s DCCU announcement also included information about two other female-led projects coming to the Super Dude heavy lineup. They include:

Waller: In a spinoff of Gunn’s own HBO Max hit series Peacemaker, Viola Davis will return as the ruthless and morally ambiguous head of a government task force. It is being written by Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver, the creator of the Doom Patrol TV series.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow: Taking its cues from the recent Tom King-written miniseries, this movie promises a different take than what most think of when Superman’s cousin comes to mind. “We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth. She is much more hard-core and not the Supergirl we’re used to.”

I’ve always thought Viola was slumming in her Suicide Squad-related content. So now at least she gets her own series, which come on you have Viola Davis. Give her a whole show. But the new Supergirl news, along with the GoT comparisons for the Amazon island drama, sounds like DC is going hardcore into gritty world building which, ok. I’m all for gritty female-lead shows, so bring it. Just make sure The Sapphics get what they want from Themyscira. Don’t makes lesbian Amazons angry, you wouldn’t like us when we’re angry.

Women Wondering

Well, here’s some bullshit. No more Wonder Women movies. Yes, we still have to endure that Flash movie from that actor who can’t stop getting arrested and harassing, um, everyone. But the world’s greatest female superhero, Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins? They get unceremoniously dumped because, well, it’s hard to say what the fuck DC/Warner/HBO is doing right now. Look, I loved the first movie and I was greatly disappointed by the second movie. But in my lifetime I’ve also sat through no less than 11 Batman movies. Eight Spider-Man movies. Six Superman movies. And about a bazillion X-Men movies. Yet we get only two shots at Wonder Woman? It’s a wonder why women don’t get as many chances. Real mystery. Plus still owe us that Amazons on Themyscira origin story, let alone more Wonder Women. More super women stories in 2023 and beyond, not less please universe.

Wonder Women Wednesday

I think we can all agree that the best part of “Wonder Woman 1984” was its post-credit scene. (I’ll say spoilers here, but seriously, it’s been almost four months.) Anyway, you know the scene, where we see a striking woman walking through a packed market only to effortlessly saves a woman and her baby from being crushed by a falling pole. And that woman, yeah, she happened to be original Wonder Woman herself Lynda Carter. Yeah, it almost made those two-and-a-half hours of wondering why Steve Trevor was alive again worth it. But, I was a little disappointed there was no direct contact between Wonder Woman Version 1.0 Lynda and Wonder Woman Version 2.0 Gal Gadot. Well, thankfully, they did have another happy meeting while on set for the sequel. With kisses no less. Look, sometimes you’ve got to enjoy the little things. Like the two Wonder Women being wonderful women together. Not bad for a Wednesday, really. Not bad at all.

WW84 or Should We Say 86-ed?

So that was disappointing. After waiting – and waiting and waiting and waiting – for the release of “Wonder Woman 1984” and then waiting a little longer to watch it on Christmas Day, I pretty much don’t understand why this movie exists. I mean I get why it exists: successful first movies in a potential blockbuster franchise, particularly those based on superheroes, typically result in sequels which are incredibly lucrative marketing opportunities as well as international moneymakers. So, you know, sell those toys. But as far as a narrative reason for existing? It’s pretty hard to figure out why except someone on whatever focus-grouped committee wrote this mediocre monstrosity is the world’s No. 1 Steve Trevor fan.

Now, having said all that, I am still glad the movie has been (relatively, all pandemics considered) successful and resulted in the immediate green-lighting of a third Wonder Woman movie. Women deserve to be behind the camera, (not to mention every room where decisions are being made), period. Despite not loving her sophomore effort, Patty Jenkins deserves all the franchises you throw at her. Like, say, being the first woman to direct a “Star Wars” movie. And, with any luck her return to Diana Prince will center the woman behind the W (instead of her long-dead boyfriend and or a wish-granting baddie who somehow receives a full redemptive arc), so we all get the female superhero we deserve again.

Still, Hollywood has this annoying habit of consolidating its talent and franchises into giant monopolies helmed by the precious few (see J.J. Abrams with “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”). So while I am pretty excited about what Patty will do with “Rogue Squadron,” I can’t help but wish they’d spread the love. Imagine a “Star Wars” movie helped by Gina Prince-Bythewood (of this year’s spectacular “The Old Guard,” a movie so good WW84 only wishes it could polish its labrys)?

So, thoughts on WW84? Did you hate it, or did you hate it? No wrong answers, unless you loved in. In which case you Steve Trevor Fan Club pin is already in the mail.

p.s. The hands-down best thing about WW84 is the suprise mid-credit extra scene. Trust me, it is worth it even if the film is not.

Like, Totally Wonder Woman

That was – as the kids in 1984 would say – totally tubular. The new “Wonder Woman”/”Stranger Things” trailer has me all jazzed to jump in my DeLorean and go to the mall. I have no idea how Steve Trevor is back, and still young and hot. And I’m not fooled by Kristen Wiig, that woman is a Cheetah in nerd’s clothing. I thought “Wonder Woman” was an excellent superhero movie – one of my favorites. And with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot teaming up again my hopes are just as high.

And the trailer even gives us a tantalizing glimpse of Themyscira. Though, with all due respect to the cowbell, this trailer needs more Amazons. But then, really, everything could use more amazon. Bitchin’ soundtrack though. And this new battle armor is so freakin rad. So rad.

Amazonian Fail

If you every wondered if it matters who gets to tell stories, look no further than the new costumes for the Amazons. You remember the Amazons, right? Fierce warriors of Themyscira who are tasked with defending the world against the evils of man. They ride horses and shoot arrows and swing from ropes and kick all of the ass. Remember? And to do that they need sensible yet attractive battle armor, right? Right.

Well, not anymore.

Say goodbye metal breastplates and hello leather bikinis in the new “Justice League” movie. Now we’re not talking about their lounging around Paradise Island clothes here, which in the “Wonder Women” film also tended to be leather and midriff heavy. At least makes some sense given the Mediterranean locale. We are talking about what the Amazons actually wearing into battle with their swords and their bows blazing. Can you spot the difference above in “Wonder Woman” at left and in “Justice League” at right?

Here maybe it helps if I tell you who was behind the Amazons.

On your left: director Patty Jenkins and costume designer designed by Lindy Hemming. On the right: director Zack Snyder and costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

Like I was saying, it matters who gets to tell stories.

ValkAzons Unite

Dear Movie Goddesses:

Please make a movie where the Amazons from “Wonder Woman” and the Valkyrie from “Thor: Ragnarok” team up and save the world from all enemies foreign and intergalactic. Picture it, two legendary bands of female warriors from ancient myth bound by destiny to fight evil now side-by-side. It’s a can’t miss blockbuster and every gay lady I know has already purchased 10 tickets in her head.

Your respectfully,
Ms. Snarker

But, for real, can we talk about how much I loved Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in the new, fun Thor film? (Also, it doesn’t hurt that it also has Cate Blanchett evil vamping it up in skin-tight latex.) Tessa has wonderful swagger in the film. In short, she’s a true badass and I want her to call me immediately.

Now the character of Valkyrie is canonically bisexual in the comics. Unfortunately in the film you have to do some serious reading between the lines to suss out her sexuality. But there is one scene, where it seems her fellow Valkyrie/girlfriend takes a sword for her and she responds with anguish, that hints at queerness. There’s also her general badassness, which I always read as queerness. But hey, I’m biased that way.

The scene also interestingly mirrors a scene in “Wonder Woman” where General Antiope takes a bullet and her right-hand-woman/fellow Amazon comes running up in anguish.

Anyway. What I’m trying to say is the mash-up Valkyrie/Amazon movie is a no-brainer and also super, duper queer. So make it so, movie goddesses, make it so.

Armor Top Tuesday

Bring me my two-hour Amazons of Themyscira movie. Bring it to me now. Look, we can all agree they live in paradise. Strong women. Fierce warriors. Wise leaders. Diverse community. No men. Forget San Junipero. Themyscira is heaven on Earth. I so love that “Wonder Woman” cast real athletes as its Amazons. And, damn girl, it shows. Then, after our Amazon movie, I would like a sequel that tackles all twelve volumes of the Amazonian treatise on love and sexuality. I also want T-shirts that say, “When it comes to pleasure, men are unnecessary.“ And all the lesbians said AMEN.

OK, Amazons, now let's get in formation.

p.s. I mean, just think of the AMAZONIAN ABS. OK, gay ladies, time to Kickstarter this thing.

Filled With Wonder

I could say so much about how the “Wonder Woman” film made me feel. Proud. Fierce. Joyous. Powerful. Excited. Important. Many have written many other wonderful things about the film (I suggest you give my friend Heather Hogan’s review a read if you want a more verbose take filled with eloquence and enthusiasm). And many others have marveled at the record-breaking impact of the film and its historic box office. Yes, I know, we had to endure Steve. Yes, of course, I would have happily watched 2.5 hours of Amazons training on the beach. But mostly I just want to say, quite simply, that the movie made me feel like this.

Yep, that’s it. Go see it, kittens. Maybe again and again. Have a wondrous Monday, all.

My Weekend Wonder Women

Guys, I ship it. I. Ship. It. Two times the Wonder Woman, two times the fun – amirite? Fine, fine. But I am very excited to see the new “Wonder Woman” movie and very relieved the reviews are good. Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman remains one of the stalwart heroes of my youth. But it is always exciting when a new generation gets a chance to find their own hero.

Also, have I mentioned I ship it? Look, if Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have taught us anything, it is that ladies who love ladies can May-December with the best of them. I mean, they’re superheroes. That’s super hot. And, from the looks of things, they are already super into it. Happy Wonder Woman Weekend, all.

Wonder Where

Well, add another thing to the annals of “Men Ruin Everything.” Here we have a perfectly good movie about Amazon life in Themyscira, and then, boom, a dude drops in and everything goes to hell. Fine, so maybe he doesn’t ruin everything. Like, I’m still pretty excited to see this movie and rejoice in all the Amazonian badassery. Robin Wright! Connie Nielsen! Lucy Davis not an Amazon, but very funny)! I’m not 100 percent sure what accent they’re all affecting. (Like, are they trying to copy Gal Gadot’s natural accent?) Also, no sign of the signature spin.
But, yeah, I’m still totally into it.

My Weekend Crush

I admit, I am getting excited for this movie. Could it still suck? Of course it could still suck. But we have so precious few female-fronted superhero films to begin with, we cling to each precious one with such exuberant hope. Could this one really be good? Could it really be the hero we’ve been waiting for? Maybe. But one thing I do know is looking at Wonder Woman through the newly lens of her canonical queerness makes everything better. Bring on the Amazons. Happy weekend, all.

Wonderfully Queer

So, goodness, it seems like forever since we’ve talked – really talked. I mean we’ve talked about AfterEllen. And then I was moving so mostly I just showed you pictures. But by “talking” I mean talked about random super gay stuff which makes the important ephemera of our lives. Like, the fact that Wonder Woman is now officially queer. When current Wonder Woman comic writer Greg Rucka said those words out loud during an interview last week it was a simultaneous “Wow!” and “Duh!” Duh, because Wonder Woman comes from a Paradise Island populated only by Amazonian women. So, obviously, if the women on said island are leading healthy, happy lives and relationships those relationships are with other women. To quote Rucka:

“…when you start to think about giving the concept of Themyscira its due, the answer is, “How can they not all be in same sex relationships?” Right? It makes no logical sense otherwise.

It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able — in a context where one can live happily, and part of what an individual needs for that happiness is to have a partner — to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women.

But an Amazon doesn’t look at another Amazon and say, “You’re gay.” They don’t. The concept doesn’t exist.

Now, are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? As Nicola and I approach it, the answer is obviously yes.”
That is a pretty thoughtful and thorough explanation of the very nature of Wonder Woman.

Now the wow part comes in because, wow, Wonder Woman really is a queer lady. Sure we knew. Like nudge-nudge, wink-wink knew. But to hear it said out loud still matters very deeply. Earlier this week a while vice presidential debate went by without a single question about LGBT people despite one of the candidate’s record as being one of the most virulently anti-gay governors in the nation. So, yeah, it matters each time another person, real or fictional, comes out and is counted. Also, come on, she is Wonder Woman. With all due respect to Supergirl and Batwoman, Wonder Woman is the most famous female superhero – period. So to have her be a queer lady is a Big Fucking Deal, Joe Biden.

Yet the question remains, will we see it. You can say all you want that a character is queer – heck you can even make them queer after the fact à la J.K. Rowling. But as the saying goes, seeing is believing. Or that old writer’s rule: Show, don’t tell. To that point Ruckas was equally thoughtful, if much more open-ended. As such I’m not expecting a, “Yep, I’m a gay Amazon” moment from Wonder Woman anytime soon. But he also seems to realize the importance of Wonder Woman’s queer visibility on the page.
“It doesn’t matter if I say, “Yes, she’s queer.” Or “No, she’s not queer.” It matters what you get out of the book. Can you find it? Is it there? Is it on the page in action or in deed? Then, there’s your answer.”
So, she’s here, she’s queer. But we won’t get used to it until we see it.

I'm With Her (and Her)

Finally, we are ready. Finally, we have the champion we can unite behind to fight the forces of darkness. Finally, we have the shero we’ve been waiting for. But enough about Hillary. Man, I wasn’t sure about the Wonder Woman movie because of that grimdark spectacle that was “Batman v. Superman.” But then they tapped Patty Jenkins, the writer-director behind “Monster,” to direct. And they added Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright and Gail Gadot as the woman herself. Now, yep, I’m with her. Wonder Woman was always a favorite of mine anyway. If you didn’t do the Wonder Woman spin in your bedroom as a kid you’re either too young to know who Lynda Carter is or lying. I have now watched the trailer three times and each time I love it more. So as long as the movie keeps her ass-kicking ways and throws in a strong dose of feminism, she has my vote.

Wonder Looks

Oh hell, why not? Everyone else is

in on Wonder Woman’s new outfit. Why not me. First, I hate to say it but I’m slightly annoyed by the newcomer casting. Batman and Superman get recognized names and arguably the most iconic female superhero of all time gets someone I need to Google? Anyway, fine. Everyone was new once.

So now onto the important bits: the look. I don’t hate it. I know there are no iconic stars-and-stripes hotpants. And, heavens, will this lesbian miss the hotpants. But I’m also OK with that because if you really, really think about it superhero costumes tend to look a little ludicrous when worn by actual human beings. Remember poor Adrianne Palicki and that never-even-happened Wonder Woman TV debacle? Better yet, let’s collectively pretend it never happened.

Granted, I am not feeling the high-heeled boots because – ugh, high-heeled boots. (Even if it’s some sort of modified chunky platform – who can run like an Amazon on tip-toes?) Also the whole “Batman v. Superman” aura has terribly grimdark what with the Sad Batfleck and Super Rain teaser images. But at least she looks more or less ready for a fight. Sure, her outfit is a lot more revealing than Supe or The Bat, but at least I don’t see her cleavage falling out. Nor is her ass positioned prominently on screen. Sad to say, it’s an improvement over “The Avengers” promos. (Though, is she squats a little too vigorously I might see Wonder Snatch.) In the end I dig her sword. I dig her wristcuffs. I dig her whole “I stole this from the Warrior Princess” vibe. I don’t know if Xena feels the same way, but I’d pay to watch those two duke it out.

My Weekend Independence

Happy birthday, America! Isn’t it fun how we still celebrate our breakup from England all these years later. In honor of the U.S. of A.’s birthday, let’s get crazy up in here. I’ve been jamming out to M.I.A. featuring Missy Elliott & Azealia Banks for the last day and a half. So let’s go smash some patriarchy with Wonder Woman this holiday weekend. And watch some fireworks. And drink some beer. Or just press play and watch this gif over and over and over and over. Hey, how about all of the above?

This is particularly relevant for many reasons eight now including but not limited to a) the new artist tapped to draw Wonder Woman for DC Comics saying he wants her to be “strong,” but “I don't want to say feminist.” And 2) All three of the female Supreme Court Justices being completely done with all the mansplaining about female reproductive freedom happening among their male counterparts. Smash some shit, indeed. Happy Fourth of July weekend, all.

p.s. Promised OITNB character recaps are coming on Monday. Monday, I tell ya. *throws paper in the air and runs off*

Wonder pants

Well, shit. The shiny porn pants aren’t gone. While we all let out an enormous sigh of relief when it appeared Wonder Woman had ditched her PVC pants for a more practical, stretchy, dark-blue pair, it appears our relief was ill founded. The porn pants are still there. Repeat, porn pants are go. (Man, that is going to bring some interesting keyword searches today. Helllloooo, perverts!)

After we got to see Wonder Woman’s Adrianne Palicki move it in what appeared to be a tweaked costume, NBC President Robert Greenblatt shot us down like the Invisible Jet in hostile territory. He told TVLine.com yesterday:
“There was an initial outcry about the long pants – you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series. But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale (played by Elizabeth Hurley).”

Um, dude, no one was mad that the pants were long. People were mad that the pants were shiny. Also, porny. Greenblatt said Wonder Woman has had three costumes all along: The shiny pants, the stretchy pants and the hotpants. And he says for all of our gnashing and wailing, nothing has changed.

“We haven’t made any changes from what was planned. But it’s always good to hear the feedback. I’d rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored.”

Does this guy know how to play to the fans or what? No. 1, I have totally misunderstood your complaints. No. 2, I don’t really care what your complaints are because we’re not making changes. No. 3, watch my show anyway, suckers!

Greenblatt also went on to praise series creator and writer David E. Kelley, whose script for the pilot has been widely panned. Like, super duper, all over the place panned. I understand there have been some rewrites since, but I have the terrible suspicion that the line “Big tits save lives!” will still make the cut. I love boobs as much as the next gal (no, that’s a lie – I love them more), but I wasn’t really looking for Titty Empowerment from the new Wonder Woman. We have Helen Mirren for that.

As for the shiny pants, I’m starting to fear that Wonder Woman’s real foe will not be Hurley’s Veronica Cale. Instead, I think the real villain of the first season will be a lingering, chronic yeast infection brought on by non-breathable fabrics. Say hello to Wonder Woman, brought to you by Monistat.

Keeping abreast

Hey, hey. My words. They’re up here. OK, so, yesterday my thought process went like this: “Write many things and then spruce them up with some pretty pictures.” But today, I know better. Today I’m going to stop fighting it and reverse the equation. Why? Because it’s 10 days until Christmas (or if you don’t celebrate Christmas, a nice long weekend). I think we all deserve to turn off our brains a bit. And, as evolution would have it, my theme for today’s post has a habit of turning off brains anyway. I’ll freely admit, I’m not really a breast gal. I mean, don’t get me wrong, they’ve nice – no, really nice. But I can usually still make steady eye contact with a lady in spite her really nice rack. Not that I don’t enjoy a peek now and then. There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, it would be a pity to not stare at these. [Though your work might think otherwise, so tastefully – that means no nip – NSFW.]

Scarlett JohanssonSo she is single now. So, you know – hey, girl.

Christina HendricksLike I could leave her off this list. Pshaw.

Anna FrielSize doesn’t matter.

Julianne MooreI can’t say this enough: This woman is FIFTY.

BeyoncéIt’s kind of not fair being both bootylicious and boobylicious.

Anne HathawayAnne is totally laughing at my boobylicious joke.

Dita von TeeseMatching one’s cleavage to one’s jacket is truly a lost art form.

RihannaIf she really was the only girl in the world, that would be a shame because we wouldn’t be able to look at her.

Blake LivelyIs it just me, or does that look uncomfortable?

Salma HayekWhen she arrives to vacation on small South Pacific islands the villagers always notice an abrupt change in the tidal patterns which subsist immediately after she leaves once again. They have yet to determine what is causing the additional orbital pull. Ahem.

Lynda Carter/Wonder WomanThe Wonder Boobs were responsible for untold numbers of nascent lesbian experiences.

Love's Labor

Are you working? Well you shouldn’t be. Today is the day we celebrate working by not working. Yay, unproductivity! Like any good North American laborer I’m going to spend today being blissfully lazy, as will my Canuck friends, except they spell it with a “u.” So in honor of Labor Day, a day when we don’t actually have to labor, how about indulging in some sexy videos? You’re not at work so that mouth-breathing podmate won’t be leering at your screen. You’re boss won’t walk by right when things get good. This is the perfect time for a little (tasteful) NSFW YouTubery. I did all the laboring to find the videos so you don’t have to. You’re welcome. Oh, and you’re also welcome for Olivia Wilde up above. And by “you’re welcome,” I mean “don’t swallow your tongue.”

Girls kissing. Automatic pressing of the play button. Automatic.

Amber Heard in the short video “Death of Me” by her equally sexy girlfriend Tasya van Ree. That tattoo on her side, what does it say?

I never watched “Legend of the Seeker.” This was a mistake.

Also, because it’s Monday and because there are only two more episodes of “Rizzoli & Isles” (what, so soon, nooooo!), here is yet another Rizzles fanvid. No, I will not tell you how much time I spent getting sucked into searching for those. Needless to say, I’m glad I had another day to sleep in.

I’m certain these have whipped you into your own YouTube fandom rabbit hole. So enjoy. It’s a holiday after all. You go watch your favorite fandoms, I’ll go watch my favorite fandoms and… wait... hold on. Is that Wonder Woman… running… in… slow motion? So, clearly, we all have to watch this together.

Happy Labor Day, or Monday every place else.

My Weekend Crush

To think, all these years I’ve been thinking about how to get into Wonder Woman’s pants and all of a sudden I can’t stop thinking about putting on her pants. By now you’ve probably heard about the wardrobe change heard around the superverse. Women Woman wears pants – or at least some sort of industrial legging. It’s kind of shocking. My mind is at war with itself trying to decide if I hate hate hate it or think it’s progress that she no longer needs to do extensive waxing in her southern hemisphere to fight crime.

But all the talk about the Amazon Princess’ change from star-spangled hotpants and red-hot bustier to Hot Topic street fighter chic serves as a reminder of what Wonder Woman means to us. She is arguable (heck, we don’t even need to argue, this is fact) the most iconic female superhero ever. Despite her skimpy attire, she has never been salacious. She has been embraced as a feminist icon and even graced the cover of Ms. magazine. And, come on, you still wish you had a pair of those Wonder Woman Underoos like you had when you were five.

So changing her outfit is a big deal. And yet, it’s just an outfit – right? Wonder Woman still stands for what she always stood for – truth, justice and the world’s most transparent airline. She is powerful, she demands respect, she comes from a long line of female warriors. If she catches you staring at her Wonder bust too long in any outfit, she will clock you. But just think if they had originally drawn her in some sort of sensible stars-and-stripes pantsuits and then 69 years later the new guard switched her into her hotpants/hot top ensemble. The murder we’d be screaming, it’d be bloody.

In the end, I can’t get too worked up. Because this is Wonder Woman. She might finally get to wear some pants right now, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the hotpants are just at the dry cleaners. And as long as no one messes with my warm memories of Lynda Carter spinning and spinning and spinning, it’ll all be OK. Happy weekend, all.

EDITED TO ADD: Because it’s a long weekend. And because it’s the Fourth of July Weekend. And because the Fourth of July is all about the red, white and blue. And because one was more red, white and blue (pre-Hot Topic jacket and Lohan leggings) than Wonder Woman. Because of all of that, I felt like it was my patriotic duty to add this picture to the post. America, fuck yeah.
