Happy Gender Fuck Chersgiving

Well, kittens, today I am thankful for Cher dressed in Elvis drag being embraced by Stevie Nicks like she’s at prom with the bad boy your parents warned you about. In these grim times, it’s the little things that can bring joy. Hope you’ve found a little something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving as well. May you all have plenty of good food and company today, and a little gender fuck never hurt either on a Thursday.

My Weekend Crush

What with October right around the corner, I enourage us all to embrace our inner witches. Gather up your closest, witchiest friends and just go for it. Light those candles. Pet those black cats. Make those voodoo dolls. Get your old black magic back. Or a little vengeance. Just a little. Which reminds me, might be time for a rewatch. Though, I always fast forward through the cherry scene because it haunts me still. Also, none for you Susan Sarandon. But, Cher and Michelle more than make up for her. Happy witchy weekend, all.

Music Monday: Tina & Cher

Don’t you love it when two great things come together. The metaphorical chocolate and peanut butter of musical icons Cher and Tina Turner have had a few memorable collaborations. But it’s sure hard to top Tina’s appearance on Cher’s variety show in 1975. I mean, those fringe, glitter carwash dresses alone make this clip great. Now that’s how you end a February. Happy Monday, kittens.

Gender Fuck Thursday: Cher Side Story

Earlier this month a tweet about a long-ago TV special where Cher played every role in “West Side Story” went viral. And I thought, sure, how crazy can it really be? Oh, kittens. So, so crazy. The world is a lot right now, too much really. So please spend 12 minutes and change of your time watching, in slack-jawed wonder, the spectacle of Cher – the one and only Cher – singing basically all the songs in “West Side Story” while playing basically all the character, all at once. And there’s nothing basic about that. Drag King Cher in particular is a sight to behold, all four of them. So, please turn your brain off and enjoy the next dozen minutes for the truly ridiculous gender fuck and mind fuck that is Cher playing all of “West Side Story.” Plus, it’s Cher. Even when it’s crazy, it’s amazing.

My My, How Can I Resist You?

I want to live inside this picture. Seriously. Who wouldn’t want to live inside a never-ending kiss between Meryl Streep and Cher? I mean, it’s Meryl freakin’ Streep and freakin’ Cher. Now, lest you think Meryl and Cher’s romance is a new one courtesy “Mamma Mia! 2,” let me set you gay in a correct way (you know, the fabulous alternative to straight).

Some of you may remember the two actresses first worked together back in 1983 on “Silkwood.” Meryl plays the eponymous nuclear whistleblower Karen Silkwood and Cher played her lesbian roommate and coworker Diana Scarwid Dolly Pelliker. Yes, really, her lesbian roommate. And they did stuff like this in the movie. Ah, “roommates” – that old chestnut.

But, take heart, because it wasn’t just a one-time thing that got rekindled on the red carpet 35 years later. Meryl and Cher canoodled in the interim. Back in 2003 they got touchy feely at the premiere for – of all things – “Stuck on You.” Believe it or not, they both have small roles in the film. Obviously, they loved each other’s company to appear in a Farrelly brothers film. You know, like “roommates.”

Look, all I’m saying is Meryl and Cher are the couple we never realized we desperately needed. So thanks, ladies, for reminding us of that old “roommate” magic.

Lady & The Furbaby

How we love our furbabies. Sometimes all a gay gal needs is her cat. Or her dog. Or whatever furbaby makes her happy. Though some vintage shot of legendary lady celebrities with their pups and pusses isn’t bad either. Some celebs, like Elizabeth Taylor above, clearly can’t decide between their canine and feline friends. Others have taken sides. So please snuggle up to your own fury friends and enjoy the puppy/kitty/et al love.

TEAM CAT:

Bette Davis

Judy Garland

Lauren Bacall

Sophia Loren

Cher

TEAM DOG:

Billie Holiday

Brigitte Bardot

Jayne Mansfield

Josephine Baker

Marilyn Monroe

TEAM DEER:

Audrey Hepburn

Frida Kahlo

So, fess up. Are you Team Cat? Team Dog? Team Both? Though, come on, is Team Deer really a thing?
