Did Meryl tell them to move their relationship at a glacial pace?
Was Joan Baez like, aw, which one is Diamond and which one is Rust? And given this photo with Billie Eilish was taken in December 2023 – four months before she herself came out in her April 2024 Rolling Stone cover story – was she like, guys, I also have a secret? Finally, I’d like to note that my clear cropping out of Phoebe Bridgers is not bisexual erasure (she has been with standup Bo Burnham since 2022, not that there’s anything wrong with that), but because who needs a third wheel around all the time? Amirite, ladies? Anyway, I kept her in with Taylor because, well, those Gaylor rumors won’t perpetuate themselves. Anyway, mazel tov to Lucy and The Little One. May you continue to be each other’s best guess at the future forever. Also, no matter what the Internet may have already landed on, imma call them "Jucy." Happy weekend, all.Friday, April 11, 2025

Gender Fuck Thursday: boygenius everything
I can’t imagine how exciting this all would feel if I were still a 20something dyke trying to figure her shit out. As is I’m a middle-aged dyke still trying to figure her shit out – and I definitely finds it all a little exciting. Truly, I think you don’t even need to be a boygenius fan to be excited about the ride the indie supergroup has been on of late. And you definitely don’t have to be a fan so sad, sensitive lesbian music to care. You just gotta be impressed by how these queer artists have come this year. Cover of Rolling Stone. Cover British GQ’s Man of the Year issue. SNL musical guests/Troye Sivan impersonators. They’re everywhere. They’re everywhere and so gay together. They’re gay and everywhere. Look, the queer lady Beatles are getting youths to sing "kill the bourgeoisie!" How can you not be excited? I’ve never wanted to be a rock star. But when I see boygenius, I suddenly understand the inclination a little more. Also, I just LOVE their suit game. And their backing band’s suit game! And really everything about all of this. Did I mention I’m excited?

Music Monday: Cool Like Boygenius
Honestly, how cool is it that such an extravagantly queer supergroup of female musicians like boygenius is celebrated and embraced for said extravagant queerness. This is one of the most beautiful songs from their album “The Record,” and very much in keeping with my Breakup Weekend vibes. Take your broken heart and turn it into art, friends. Happy Monday, kittens.

Music Monday: Tiny MUNA, Big FOMO
I don’t often have FOMO, but goodness do I have Lesbian FOMO about this. As a forever lover of sad, sensitive (as well as fun and bouncy) lesbian music, I am rainbow-colored with envy about queer supergroup trio boygenius’s upcoming debut at Madison Square Garden in NYC. I mean, that alone would be awesome. But they’re bringing Muna, MUNA!, with them to open. I mean, can you imagine this crowd? An absolute sea of shes, thems and theys queering it up together in the queerest way possible. Yeah, major Lesbian FOMO. I guess I’ll just have to console myself with Muna’s recent Tiny Desk concert. I was lucky enough to see them open for my first post-COVID concert (the wonderful Kacey Musgraves) and immediately fell in love with their live shows. Anyway, if anyone has a spare ticket (and, uh, spare plane ticket and spare hotel room…) to MSG in NYC on Oct. 2, your friendly neighborhood lesbian blogging community member would love to be your +1. You know, as a suggestion. Anyway, enjoy tiny concert FOMO and happy Monday, kittens.

Gender Fuck Thursday: Boygenius
After so much nostalgia, in these waning days of Pride Month, let’s flash to the present. I can’t imagine the queer joy of being a young person listening to boygenius right now. OK, queer joy might be the wrong words here. Sad sensitive queer girl joy is probably a better descriptor for the indie supergroup trio’s music. But, no matter your age, it feels good to immerse yourselves in these extremely gay, extremely relatable, extremely emo (do kids still say emo?) songs that cut to the marrow of what it feels like to be a queer 27-year-old anxious lonelyheart in this world. Also, hot damn, I just really love their suits.
p.s. Had to swap out the videos, but this one should play. And there are still suits.

Music Monday: MUNA & boygenius Party
Did you see that MUNA and boygenius collab at Coachella? (I know, I know — I never thought I’d be writing about artist collabs at Coachella either. But these are QUEER ARTISTS collabing at Coachella, so it’s marginally less annoying. Also I guarantee you every single one of those artists have done more than just ‘kiss’ a girl circa Katy Perry ‘08, m’kay.) Anyway, as I was saying, my new favorite purveyor of Sad, Sensitive Lesbian Music (boygenius) and my newish favorite purveyor of Queer Pop Yumminess (MUNA) got together and sang “Silk Chiffon” and danced all sexy like together and frolicked on stage while generally having a gay old time. May you all manifest this kind of fierce, hot, unapologetically queer energy for May, and the rest of the year. Happy Monday, kittens.

My Weekend Crush
Yes, they sing about being 27. But something about the crystalline emotions of our younger selves continues to resonate through the ages. Nothing stings like the first heartbreak, but every heartbreak will always hurt anew like the first time somehow. If you’re a gal who loves the lyrics like me, shit, you’re going to awaken so many ghosts, old and new, to gently haunt your heart.
Like, have you ever wept while pulling weeds and listening to the aching specificity of “Cool About It?” Because I have. And have you longed for the chance to be devastated by the same soul through space and time and rebirth like “We’re In Love?” That sure hits different while potting your tomatoes for the season.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve listened less to music. Mostly, honestly, I listen in the car. But sometimes, like last weekend, I remember how it feels to immerse myself and let the sonic feelings just wash over me again. I haven’t stopped listening all week. Maybe you’ll like a sensory dip into the girl geniuses of Boygenius too, if you haven’t already. Happy weekend, all.
p.s. Also Kristen Stewart directed this and the film (and three music videos) for “The Record” in case you needed even MORE lesbo street cred.

Music Monday: Boygenius Edition
Please enjoy this entirely lesbian sentence: Queer indie supergroup boygenius has tapped Kristen Stewart to direct its upcoming music videos. That’s, like, so gay, dude. But before that happens, please enjoy this video for “Not Strong Enough” shot by boygenius themselves — Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. So if you’re into watching three very talented young queer white women having a fun road trip together, please enjoy. Though, I have no comment on their respective batting stances. Also, don’t worry, when the K-Stew directed video drops, I’ll let you know. Happy Monday, kittens.

Follow the Queer Brick Road
That’s right, more “Yellowjackets” adjacent content coming at ya because I promised you a week and want queer female-led media to survive and thrive. Fresh off the lipstick-smudged launch of her new lady relationship, Jasmin Savoy Brown is having a moment. Here the “Yellowjackets” star is in the very gay (like, it’s about finding love at the world’s loneliest Wizard of Oz fan convention) music video for indie queer musician Lucy Dacus, who makes up one-third of queer indie supergroup Boygenius along with Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers (who also appears in the music video for some hot witch-on-witch action with “Grey’s” star E.R. Fightmaster). Honestly, we need Alice’s chart at this point to help us keep track of all the queer lady connections in “Night Shift.” But major props to Lucy for making sure she gets to make out with Jasmin in the video. Like, honey, always shoot your shot. If the Ruby Slipper fits, kiss her. Also, damn, could you imagine being able to watch your favorite queer artists make out with each other in music videos when you were growing up? Yeah, what a world, what a world.
