Vacation Vixen: Jodie Foster

Well, I’m finally taking a little time off – like two weeks and change off. Which, by American vacation standards, is forever. But, as always, I would never leave you high and vixenless. So please enjoy Jodie and company these next couple of weeks. Also, does anyone else suddenly have an urge for melons?

Vive la France

Did you know Jodie got a fancy award from French President Emmanuel Macron this month? Truly, these days you can only go overseas to accept any kind of presidential award. Ain’t no way she’s coming anywhere near the stick-on-gold White House these days. Also, well done receiving the Legion of Honor alongside Sigourney Weaver. Again, I ask, can this moment be the timeline? Pretty please?

Gender Fuck Thursday: Tennis, Anyone

I guess I’m just feeling sporty this week. But what was in the water, or should I say wardrobes, at Wimbledon this year? I noticed celeb-after celeb – queer or otherwise – rocking the preppy menswear. And, I can’t help it, I kind of love it. WASPy, old money gender fuck is secretly one of my favorite categories of gender fuck. Like, damn, Jodie and Alexandra. You make me want to pitch a show called Real Lesbian Housewives of Cape Cod. Though, honestly, thanks to Ralph Lauren, everyone at Wimbledon looked like they were about to ask the unpopular girl in the handsewn dress to prom.

Jodie Foster & Alexandra Hedison

Emma Corrin
Cynthia Erivo
Nicole Kidman
Rashida Jones
Sarah Pidgeon
Right, so who above is taking you to prom? Yes, obviously, I already called dibs on Jodie. (Sorry, Alexandra, not sorry.)

Gender Fuck Thursday: Jodie

My goal is to bring you a stunning queer woman in a suit every Thursday this month. Why? It’s been a hard year and we’re not even half way through yet. You deserve this. We all do. Like, did you know there are a set of black-and-white shots from photographer Thalia Gochez’s Wall Street Journal shoot with Jodie Foster? And did you know Thalia called Jodie, “sweet.” Now, isn’t that a lovely thing to see and hear on a Thursday?

My Weekend Crush

Welp. Normally I’d save such fine, fine, very, very, very fine suitage for Thursday, as the good gay gods intended. But, it’s May and I can’t wait and omfg here’s Jodie Foster in a full-on Mad Men-era suit for the Wall Street Journal. And I’m already terribly late because this interview came out in JANUARY and I’m just now seeing it. (Maybe because WSJ is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and I try to avoid his everything…) Anyway, if you want to read it (and throw the bird at old Rup), here is the Internet Archive version for your reading pleasure. Otherwise, just behold the majesty. This makes me really, really want a dapper gray suit. Or Jodie. Probably both. (Respectfully). What? Call it spring fever. Happy weekend, all.
p.s. Yes, I know, I know – I’ve been posting about Jodie kinda a lot lately. It’s (was) my 20th blogiversary, so I paying homage to The O.G.

Tank Top Tuesday: Vintage Foster

I mean, I feature Jodie in a tux, I gotta feature Jodie in a tank. Look, I don’t make the rules – fine, I totally make the rules. But since I’ve been feeling these throwback tank tops of late, how about we appreciate plain white tank Jodie circa my constant dreams. You’re welcome.

Gender Fuck Thursday: Jodie's Tux

Wait, why did no one tell me that in addition to speaking French throughout the whole movie, Jodie Foster also appears in a tuxedo in “A Private Life”? It’s like you don’t even care about my happiness. I’ll have to think about this for a while. You know, to heal our trust. That’s the only reason I plan to think about these photos of Jodie in a tux with slicked back hair. Yep, trust. Anyway, it’s a Thursday so if you, like, me, were not aware of these facts then you are now welcome.

Gender Fuck Thursday of a Certain Age

Someone called me “creepy” for noting that Amber Glenn, who is a 26-year-old fully adult woman, is hot. Which, I might add, could just be empirical fact. Regardless, I would like to comfort those who are concerned about my moral compass, that I would never actually initiate any real-world romantic relationships with someone approximately half my age. Nor do I want to. But, also, I have eyes that work – and I’m not dead. Anyway, to not offend anyone’s sensibilities – delicate or otherwise – how about some Gender Fuck Thursday of a Certain Age? All these women are well within an appropriate age bracket for a Gen Xer who keeps throwing those AARP invitations in the trash.

Suranne Jones, 47

It’s the manspreading for me.

Tracy Chapman, 61

Boy, I wish she would play publicly more so I could objectify the shit out of her…talent.

Cate Blanchett, 56

I’ve never pulled off a velvet suit this well at any age.

Jodie Foster, 63

Granted, I might be on the edge of youngish for Jodie depending on her May-December tolerance. Which clearly would be the only thing holding us back and not the fact that she’s already married and also Jodie Foster.

Jenna Lyons, 57

I wish she was still with J.Crew, because as a Gen Xer I still have major residual nostalgia about that brand and its catalogue.

Regina King, 55

I’m pretty sure I can’t pull off an orange suit either, regardless of age.

Lena Headey, 52

I’ll always have a thing for age-appropriate florists thanks to her.

Cynthia Nixon, 59; Carrie Coon, 45; Christine Baranski, 73

Yes, I know Louisa Jacobson (34) and Taissa Farmiga (31) are just sweet baby angel children, so please accept the reverse 20+year age gap with Christine as my mea culpa.

p.s. In case further apology is needed, please accept this with my most sincere age-appropriate feelings (just put your thumb over 38-year-old Karen Gillan’s face if necessary) as everyone else is 50+.

In the Closet with Jodie

Yeah, I am gonna post about Jodie Foster again because before her recent on-screen renaissance us fans had to endure a very long, very dry, very private patch. But she is The O.G., after all. Obviously I love Jodie’s Criterion Closet segment. And her picking Céline Sciamma’s magnificently queer “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” as her first pick? Of course. I mean, it’s French, it’s gay, it’s amazing. So of course Jodie loves it, of course. I also love that her first few picks are all female directors, much like in her real life with women at the helm of all of her projects since 2023’s “Nyad.” So yeah, I’d trust this woman with my fancy Blockbuster picks any day of the week. Also, please clap for me not making any Jodie in the closet jokes for the duration of this post (headlines don't count).

Foster the Future

In the midst of all the needless misery of this world and our increasingly unhinged Christo-fascist government, you still deserve nice things. I know, seems trite. But I can’t tell you how much better it made me feel listening to Jodie Foster speak for 13 minutes about her past roles and life with Variety. [Hat tip, Karen!] You can also read the accompanying highly engaging feature about her in the magazine, where she addressed that Golden Globes acceptance speech and seemingly everything else. For a famously private person, it’s entirely candid yet still entirely her.

What I like about the video, besides the glory of 63-year-old Jodie being confidently herself, is how gay it is. If you were here from the beginning, you know exactly how welcome and earned it feels for Jodie to embrace her queerness at this point in her journey. Plus, how great was it to hear her talking about clocking Kristen Stewart as her mini-me/a baby gay, and then saying “I have never enjoyed being stuck in a closet with a person in my life so much as Miss Kristen Stewart as a kid.” So gay! And then for her to reveal she knew Diana Nyad and Bonnie Stoll – the real-life subjects of “Nyad” – well before she had signed on for the movie from Christmas parties and barbecues. Yeah, at LESBIAN Christmas parties and LESBIAN barbecues. They’re lesbians, Stacey. Here’s to getting older, wiser and gayer, just like Jodie.

Cinema Francophile

I am bound and determined to go out of this infernal year on a high note. So here is Jodie Foster acting in French in her new feminist noir caper “A Private Life.” All I know is Jodie plays a psychiatrist who speaks French and wears glasses. Like I said, 2025 has been a doozy. I’ll take my high notes where I can get them, preferably in French.

No Fear, Foster Edition

Happy first Wednesday of Pride. In honor of this most auspicious Hump Day (ahem) So clearly you need to hear Jodie Foster speaking in French at the Cannes film festival recently. She spoke about how fear kept her from taking a larger French-spreaking role before. Yes, the badass from “The Silence of the Lambs” was scared of speaking French on screen. We all have insecurities, but do it anyway like Jodie.

My Weekend Crush

Well this week got away from me. So I leave you with a quick hit, but a good hit. Here are Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster together (with a bonus Kate scowl photobomb). The actors were out supporting each other, and it seems they have had a mutual admiration society since at least 2010 when they starred in “Carnage” together. I will reserve comment on these prodigiously talented women working with some equally problematic directors over the years. It’s the weekend and you gotta let some of that shit go. How about this, they work together with an entirely unproblematic (preferably female) director instead? Problem solved. Happy weekend, all.

SGALGG/GGALGG: Gay Golden Gals Edition

As SGALGG has evolved over the years, I think a not-insignificant small sign of progress has been how many out gay gals have snuck in as well. They originally started because, well, there weren’t enough queer celebrities to fill a post so straight acting like gay gals had to do. But these days so many celesbians and queerebrities (I dunno, I’m trying out a new word, just go with it) you could practically post just about them. In fact, I think I will. So here are all the gay gals acting like gay gals (sometimes with other gay gals, sometimes with the obligatory straight gals – not that there’s anything wrong with that. We’re here, we’re queer, and our Globes are totally golden.

Jodie Foster

Jodie’s evolution into our reigning Lesbian Elder Stateswoman (LES, for short because of course) has been a true joy to watch. She’s married, she’s winning awards, she’s looking great and she’s doing it all on her own terms. And those terms are stone-cold gay. May we all become the biggest LES possible! Also Jodie showing up with her son instead of wife at the Globes is s true mombian flex. I not-so-secretly hope that Alexandra said take the kid, I’m going to watch it in my PJs like before. Though, I also not-so-secretly hope that Jodie sitting on Kate Winslet’s lap has made Alex reconsider attending next year. That, or the sight of her throupling with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons. Or, possibly, the death-grip Nicole has on her wrists here. Just saying.

Angelina Jolie

They say three makes a trend but we’re talking about queer women here so two will do (what, we move all relationships faster – it’s kind of our thing). The Globes were apparently also Bring Your Child to World day for the queer female nominees. Following in Jodie’s footsteps, Angie showed up with daughter Zahara. She also got hugged by Kate Winslet (Jodie and Angie? Shoot your shots, Kate) and stood very close to Salma Hayek. We’ll take all the beauty proximity we can get.

Ayo Edebiri

Like I don’t know if Ayo has ever openly dated a woman before (at least not in public since she got famous, that I can tell…), but she sure is shooting her shot at becoming the next queer female heartthrob in this suit. First of all, LOVE the golden feather tie. Second of all, love the swagger. Third of all, love all the flirting with Zendaya, Ali Wong, Andrew Scott and, of course, Michelle Yeoh. Oh, and then showing up at the afterparty with a ballcap on? Shots shot.

Cynthia Erivo

I spotted Lena Waithe in the background, so relax everyone. Cynthia continues to live her best gay life. Like who wouldn’t be thrilled to meet Kathy Bates/Evelyn Couch, or sneak a snuggle with Zoe Kravitz or cling to Kate Winslet’s shoulder like she’s a piece of door floating in the icy North Atlantic Ocean?

Sarah Paulson

Dearest, we already did the Cate/Carol thing. But after seeing this photo doesn’t it feel canonically impossible that Sarah isn’t in the second “Wicked” movie somehow? Like, that much queer energy needs to include some Paulson. Make it happen, gay GCI wizards. You have until November.

Emma D'Arcy

I applaud Emma for continuing to show up on red carpets looking like a haunted orchestra conductor. I also applaud them for checking out Michelle Yeoh on the red carpet, as one should to be respectful/horny.

Hannah Einbinder

Speaking of showing respect, I respect the way Hannah makes her and Jean Smart look like the one May-December couple you can’t stop shipping despite all the problematic everythings. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not into Ava and Deborah. But I am totally into Hannah and Jean. What, I already admitted it was problematic, but the heart wants what it wants.

Auliʻi Cravalho

Since we’re talking queer female heartthrobs, hello. Gen Z, why are you sleeping on Auliʻi Cravalho? Like, I am in a totally different age bracket. But if I was a quarter century younger? Yeah, I’d want to be that rose. Youths, act appropriately.

Jessica Gunning

The “Baby Reindeer” star and newly minted Golden Globe winner scores major queer points for getting her award from THE Kathy Bates (every queer gal is doing it, see above). I hope she whispered “Towanda!” when accepting the trophy from her.

Kali Reis

I couldn’t find any pictures of Kali and her fine-ass suit hanging with any other celebrities at the Globes. But I did see her connecting with Kathryn Hahn the night before at a Globes pre-party in a different fine-ass suit. So, you know, Gay Card stamped, approved and notarized.

So, any favorite queer moments of the night for you?
