My Weekend (Wonder) Crush

I know every lesbian of a certain age has a crush on Lynda Carter. That Wonder Woman costume sure made an impression on my young-impressionable mind, and many others. Ahem. So, of course, I was thrilled by her appearance at the end of the latest “Wonder Woman” movie (even if the rest of the movie was basically a dud). But, as we grow older, the hero worship of our youth can become a disappointing reality. But not so of Lynda.

Our Wonder Woman remains a wonder and has, for years and years, been an outspoken supporter of queer and progressive causes. And this Pride Month she has been on a wonderful Twitter spree spreading love for LGBTQ+ people, causes and heroes. She’s also dashing the bigoted dreams of homophobes by confirming that Wonder Woman herself is a bi icon, extoling the virtues of drag brunch and generally being a Super Ally to believe in.

Like, I know Twitter crushes are so like 2012, but Lynda Carter is a forever crush. I mean, she’s 70 and I still want her to (lovingly and with respect) step on my neck — especially if she’s wearing the Wonder Boots. So. You know, there’s also that. We all deserve superheroes we can believe in. Thanks, woman, you’re a true wonder. Happy weekend, all.

Wonder Women Wednesday

I think we can all agree that the best part of “Wonder Woman 1984” was its post-credit scene. (I’ll say spoilers here, but seriously, it’s been almost four months.) Anyway, you know the scene, where we see a striking woman walking through a packed market only to effortlessly saves a woman and her baby from being crushed by a falling pole. And that woman, yeah, she happened to be original Wonder Woman herself Lynda Carter. Yeah, it almost made those two-and-a-half hours of wondering why Steve Trevor was alive again worth it. But, I was a little disappointed there was no direct contact between Wonder Woman Version 1.0 Lynda and Wonder Woman Version 2.0 Gal Gadot. Well, thankfully, they did have another happy meeting while on set for the sequel. With kisses no less. Look, sometimes you’ve got to enjoy the little things. Like the two Wonder Women being wonderful women together. Not bad for a Wednesday, really. Not bad at all.

My Weekend Crush

Lynda Carter, and her iconic portrayal of Wonder Woman, makes her a forever hero in my book. And while her public persona has always been delightful, she has taken a very appreciated political bent of late. And has also proven she can throw more than a little presidential shade. Truly, anyone who considers herself (their self or himself) a hero must speak out. These are not normal times and we are facing a not normal threat. When faced with a man so unabashedly and outwardly corrupt, racist, sexist and homophobic all good people must stand up and demand his defeat. So, thanks Lynda. I was already a fan, and now I feel even more validated in the hero worship. Happy safe, healthy and righteous weekend, all.

My Weekend Wonder Women

Guys, I ship it. I. Ship. It. Two times the Wonder Woman, two times the fun – amirite? Fine, fine. But I am very excited to see the new “Wonder Woman” movie and very relieved the reviews are good. Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman remains one of the stalwart heroes of my youth. But it is always exciting when a new generation gets a chance to find their own hero.

Also, have I mentioned I ship it? Look, if Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have taught us anything, it is that ladies who love ladies can May-December with the best of them. I mean, they’re superheroes. That’s super hot. And, from the looks of things, they are already super into it. Happy Wonder Woman Weekend, all.
