My Weekend Crush

Well, I never said I wouldn’t eventually make it to Nigella, did I? I know for some reason it’s been controversial that new “Great British Bake-Off/Great British Baking Show” judge Nigella Lawson takes big bites of food. As if the whole point of her job isn’t eating cake. You think she can taste it with a tiny little nibble? I’m sorry, women need to open their mouths to eat. Crazy! What next, they’ll wear shorts and a tank top to the gym? Also, hello, Nigella’s whole thing is that she’s a great and lusty eater. Know your history, Internets! Anyway, take as big a bite as you want, ladies and everyone who doesn’t have when ladies take big bites. Happy weekend, all.

Gender Fuck Thursday: Comer Get Her

Some Thursdays you just have to stare at Jodie Comer in a blazer without a shirt underneath and nice trousers. What? I said it was a Thursday! On theme objectification, in a respectful way. Anyway, I miss having Jodie on my television on the regular. And, I won’t lie, I haven’t been a fan of the assortment of period pieces and zombie apocalypse films she’s been cast in recently. Like, please, can’t some project make accurate use of her prodigious talents? I mean, look at her just sitting in a chair!
p.s. That face, and those big feet? Please, I am begging, cast her in something worthy.

Dream Duo

Um, hello, are Jane Wickline and Grace Reiter the love children of Tina Fey/Amy Poehler and Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer or what? If SNL lets them, I believe we’re witnessing the start of an extraordinary comedy duo. Like, this skit has no right to be this funny. Put them in all the things together, Lorne Michaels. Also, what a debut for new cast member Grace. Like, that is how you make an entrance. That is as good as Jane's Sabrina Carpenter song, but that wasn't her first skit. This is exactly the unhinged female energy we need and deserve in 2026.

Last Yellowjacket Standing

So I stopped watching this. But, I am curious how it all ends. In the past, that is. We already know how things end for some of these ladies in the present. (Also, because I stopped watching, are there any gays left besides Shauna – in the past or present?) Anyway, who’s still watching. I am thrilled this show has kept Melanie Lynskey employed for four seasons. Cannibalism and all.

My Weekend Crush

Now, I bet you thought I’d have picked Nigella. What with Ms. Lawson taking over for Prue Leith and reducing Paul Hollywood to a yes man. But, I must say, I was unexpectedly moved by (Spoilers, but you should just watch, it’s better than therapy honey), Danni’s exit interview. Now, every season has its eccentric and this season Danni was definitely that girl. But, goodness, did she not remind us of the magic of simple human interaction. Like, of course, we just all want to have friends. Truly, I feel a little verklempt anew each time I watch it. Now if we could all find the beauty in strangers, especially those not like us, wouldn’t this be a kinder, happier world? Happy weekend, all.

My Weekend (Canadian) Crush

Dear Canadian Kittens,

I am so thrilled for you that today you get to watch lesbian beer league softball shenanigans. I so want to join in on the fun. But, alas, the Crave series has no U.S. distribution yet. (Though New Zealand and Australia, you seem to be in luck.) And because our barely sentient racist Cheeto for a president is The Worst In Every Way, who knows when this Canadian delight will trickle down to us. I get it, and honestly America deserves your disdain. Would it help to tell you that at least 48.3% of us are really, really, really sorry about all this *waves arms at the horrors*? We hate it too. And we WILL vote this November. Again, we can’t apologize enough for being such bad neighbors.

With Love on Behalf of Your Sane American Friends,
Ms. Snarker

p.s. Happy weekend, all!

GGALGG: Emmys Edition

I had such a busy first-week back I haven’t even had a chance to discuss the Emmys! And lots of people I like won! Did I mention I watched “Widow’s Bay” on the plane? Because I did, and I can assuredly tell you it is both funny and scary because I both laughed out loud and jump scared mid-flight. Anyway, where was I? The Television Academy and its golden statuette that looks shockingly like Megan Stalter. Since we still can, I’ll be mainly highlighting the WLW attendees. You know, the queer ladies and gay girlies and them/them hotties and such. We’re here, we’re queer, we’re GGALGGs.

Hannah Einbinder

I can’t tell if Hannah and her frequent red carpet companion Ellie Neilson are a mixed GGALGG/SGALGG couple, or a full-on GGALGG couple in this shot.
Now I really can’t tell.

Kristen Kish

I want the cameraperson to move just a little to the left, a little more, a little more…

Emma D'Arcy

I haven’t watched “House of the Dragon,” but they’re so handsome sometimes I think – well. And then I remember they wear a long wig in it and I’m like nevermind.

Cynthia Nixon

The older I get the more I appreciate a flowing, amorphous, not-body fitting gown on, really, anyone. Like, I hope it also has pockets, honey.

Niecy Nash

Niecy and her wife Jessica Betts are always a favorite on the carpet. Hey, stop it, head out of the gutter. They look too glamorous for carpet jokes.

Megan Stalter

Whereas if you want to make a trophy wife joke about Meg and her girlfriend Maddie Allen, I will allow it.

Louisa Jacobson

I liked Louisa’s after-party suit (purple) better than her award show suit (black). But, truly, I’m just so tickled one of Meryl’s girls is a hot masc/one of us.

Ayo Edebiri

Admit it, if Ayo, Zendaya and Quinta Brunson turned to look at you like this and asked if you wanted to be their unicorn you would find yourself a sparkly fake horn so fast.

But then you’d be sad because you realize they weren’t talking to you. They were talking to Denée Benton, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson and Carrie Coon across the room.

Bonus SGALGG:
Look, I know Rhea Seehorn just playing a lesbian and and Carrie Coon is just sporting a lesbian haircut. But we gotta throw the straight ladies something, they willingly date men. That’s how you know sexuality isn’t really a choice. Poor dears.

Great British Waiting Show

I know I’m late today. Maybe I’m just getting over my jealousy that you folks across the pond got to see Nigella Lawson’s debut on “Great British Bake-Off”/”The Great British Baking Show” yesterday and I still need to wait until Friday. So, soil me, how was it? I need all the cozy baking and inappropriate innuendos I can get in days/decades like these.

To the Sterling Point

So, I know I ask variations on this questions a lot, but – for real, should I be watching “Sterling Point”? I’ve heard such good things about this series from “My Old Ass” creator Megan Park. A teen girl from New York inherits her grandpa’s remote Canadian island and drama ensues when she meets her secret sister – but at least some of that drama is sapphic in nature (as is that secret sister). I won’t lie, these days I can feel some kind of way about watching teen stories, wlw or otherwise. This Gen X perimenopausal gal isn’t even sure if she has the patience to sit through teen drama, let alone interest. Then there’s also the desire to not seem like a creepy old lady. But, again, I keep hearing good things. So, anyone wanna admit to watching the latest teen drama?

p.s. Also, sorry my Canadian kittens, I hope the story of an American who comes in and causes drama in your lovely country is not too triggering right now. We are really, really, endlessly sorry about our barely sentient Cheeto-in-Chief.

Arctic Lesbians

Forget Arctic Monkeys, Arctic Lesbians are apparently all the rage. And by “all,” I mean Jodie Foster got her parka on for “True Detective: Night Country” and now Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are bundling up for the third season of “Vigil.” Admittedly, I haven’t made it through the second season of “Vigil” yet. It seemed like the show kept finding new and inventive ways to keep Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva and Detective Sergeant/Inspector Kirsten Longacre apart. Also, the whole pregnant lesbians thing. Speaking of which, who is watching the baby as they traipse off to the North Pole? Anyway, I don’t know why, but I might just tune into Season 3 and skip all the drones. I just like lesbians in snow better, I guess.

Sweet Rosie

Although I may have been a little miffed/jealous of Rosie O’Donnell’s ability to fuck off to another country to escape Trump 2.0, I have greatly enjoyed her fuck you I don’t live there anymore era. And I do understand that the threats to her family because of the “feud” are real. Mostly, I’m just thrilled a lesbian continues to annoy Mango Mussolini, and there’s not really much he can do about it. Also, I love how she explains she used to have a talk show. Man, we really are the old folks now, aren’t we?

Tank Top Tuesday: Amazing Lesbians Edition

So I guess I need to start watching “The Amazing Race.” I know, they’re entering season 39, so maybe I’m a little late. But now that soccer lesbians have joined the show, I think I can finally give it my full attention. US National Women’s Team and NWSL players Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman have joined the new season of the long-running adventure reality series. Now in case you were wondering, and the hair wasn’t already a giveaway, yes, Joanna is also a gay. Her Instagram bio includes the title “celesbian” (and lots of photos of her wife and their child – and rainbows). Anyway, I’m so glad Ali continues to live her best life (and is happily together with a new, better soccer lesbian). Guess I’ll have to record the new season and fast forward to the lesbian bits, per usual.

p.s. Also, just because it’s Tuesday and sports bras and muscle shirts are included in the Tank Top Cinematic Universe, here’s a little preview. Hopefully they packed for the race accordingly.

Tank Top Tuesday: Rebecca Ferguson Edition

Well, that settles it. I must be going through a Swedish ladies phase. Because I’ve developed a definite crush on Rebecca Ferguson. After her full-on sapphic-bait flirting at Comic-Con recently, I just can’t help it. She was always the best part of those last few “Mission: Impossible” movies (until those idiots killed her off). And she was bone-chillingly terrifying in “Doctor Sleep.” Also her “Silo” wardrobe appears to be predominantly tank top based. So, um, should I be watching “Silo” or what? I mean I’m already watching Rebecca in all her tank topped glory through the ages. So better late than never.

My Weekend Crush

I don’t know that much about the new “Little House on the Prairie” series. And I have not watched yet. I watched some of the original, some. And read a few of the books, a few. But, at heart I was an Anne of Green Gables girl. So imagine my mixed feelings now that Anne Shirley herself has come to the Prairie. While the show has too much of a Trad Wifey vibe (deserved or undeserved, since again admittedly I have not watched), I am cheering for Megan Follows to be awesome. Because she will always be Anne with an e to me. No matter where she roams. Happy weekend, all.

Heated Rivalry: Lesbian Edition

I didn’t know the marketing departments for major streaming services were in the fanfiction business. But what else would you call this femflash promo for “Heated Rivalry” featuring Olympic gold medalist Amber Glenn and cosplay influencer Lena Lemon? Set to t.A.T.u.’s “All the Things She Said,” which was used for maximum yearning during a key scene in the show, the short imagines a flirty (I want to say sensual, but I actually really hate the word sensual…) encounter between apparent rival skaters played by Amber and Lena. Like, sharing a water bottle? Girls, settle down now. As much as I appreciate including us sapphics in all the “Heated Rivalry” hoopla, I would appreciate even more a “Heated Rivalry” of our own. Oh wait, we had that with “A League of Our Own,” but Amazon canceled it. More reasons to hate Jeff Bezos and his dumb megayachts. Right, back to fan fantasy I guess.

My Weekend Crush

All this gay dating show talk has me reminiscing about one of my favorite sapphic couples. Oh Alice and Dana. You were taken from us far, far too soon. Heck, so soon that we – the long-suffering “The L Word” fandom – didn’t even have a chance to give them a proper mortmanteau. We’d only gotten around to naming TiBette! And after that we had to deal with the abomination that was Shenny. Should we give them a posthumous portmanteau? This year marks the 20th anniversary of Dana’s death, after all. Piebanks? FairPie? OK, maybe not. But, whatever you call them, I miss them. Happy weekend, all.

Sweet Lady Reality TV Kisses

Yes, I know, Pride is really and truly over. But for the last couple years near the end of Pride I’ve decided, “Self, it’s time to start watching something really stupid and really gay.” And it doesn’t get much gayer and stupider than queer reality dating shows. (Also there’s no show more endangered, but more on that later.)

Last year, I inexplicably started watching the second season of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love.” And this year, well, this year my inexplicable show is “I Kissed a Girl.” OK, there is an explanation. I kept seeing posts about the start of the second (and final, see what I was saying above) season of the show. But it gets stupider, because being on this side of the Pond we can’t even watch the new season yet. So I resigned myself to the first season. And here we are. So, you know, no spoilers – from two freaking years ago. Of course all these shows need some gimmick. You can’t see them! You have to get married! You have to kiss before you even say hello! Granted, I can stomach it better when it’s queer content. I refuse to watch straight dating shows because ewww.

Anyway, gay and stupid forever! Wonder when we’ll get the second season stateside? I hear it’s stupid fun. Now if they’ll just stop Canceling Our Gays, I might be able to catch up. Maybe even find some smart and gay shows too. What? A gay gal can dream.

Anyone else have go-to stupid and gay viewing around this time of year?

My Weekend Crush

You know what, Rosie deserves this. She looks great. She obviously feels great. She’s doing just generally great since escaping the United States. Truly, good for her. I know when she first fled I was kinda disappointed. But Rosie, and her decades-long feud with That Orange Turd, had pretty legitimate fears. And, and I cannot emphasize this enough, she was right about him ALL ALONG. I think Rosie has more than earned her flowers at this point. She got turned into a national punchline by too many for simply being a successful woman who wasn’t a Size 0 – and that was before the whole, and she’s also a big ol’ lesbo stuff. I know I’ve been a little uncharitable in the past as well. I think with fresh eyes her legacy as that other out lesbian daytime TV talk show host becomes much clearer. Please accept all these flowers as an apology for any antipathy in the past. Live your best life, and thanks for trying to warn everyone. Happy last weekend of Pride, all.

True Detective: Cold Lesbians Edition

Gee, what kind of claustrophobic situations can Silva and Longacre find themselves in next? Oh, the Arctic you say? So it’s True Detective: Lesbian Country for these two? I will admit not making it all the way through “Vigil” Season 2 yet. Something about the secret military base and the drones and pregnant lesbians had me a tad bored. Or maybe I’m just not as into copganda as much anymore. Anyway, I really did enjoy Jodie Foster’s “Night Country,” so I might be ready to watch Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie get parka with it for another season.

Tank Top Tuesday: Ava Daniels Edition

So about that final season. Granted, I started watching, got sidetracked, and then came back and binged the whole thing last weekend. So my view of the story arc might be skewed by my screwy viewing approach. Still, I’m happy for Ava. Like, if they had gone that other way, lord – what they have put that poor girl through just because she fell in (somewhat) platonic love with someone 50 years her senior. It’s a testament to Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder’s talent and chemistry that we cared at all about the continued misadventures of one of TV’s oddest couples. But care we did. The other great triumph of “Hacks” is the rise of Hannah and her refreshingly outspoken political activism. So shout out to our favorite “Supa Bi!” You’ve earned this, lady. (And thanks for the tank tops, though you had me worried for Deborah’s health with all the blood, girl.)
