My Weekend Crush

I have no idea if Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker’s new series “Frauds” will be any good. But I do know Jodie plays an ex-con named Sam and Suranne plays her partner in crime named Bert. And they apparently look like this in it. So we’re just gonna take this one for Team Gay, no matter what happens. Happy Weekend, all.

Gender Fuck Thursday: The Doctor Edition

Well, now, the Doctor definitely has my attention. The new season of “Doctor Who” returns New Year’s Day and I can’t wait. And not just because the Thirteenth Doctor is back sporting a tuxedo (with, I think, culottes?) Never the less, Jodie Whittaker has been a true delight. And the multiple companions actually kinda worked. Also, did I mention there’s a tuxedo?

Right, sorry, more reasons to cheer for the new season, it has added three new female writers and two new female directors. For what it’s worth previous Who showrunner Russell T Davies only had three women write/direct during his entire five-year run on the series. So, like I was saying, more reasons to be happy in 2020. Well, that, and we get to ride in The Doctor’s box which *eyebrow wiggle* What? Sorry, it was right there and she did put on a tuxedo so clearly I had no choice.

Doctor Rainbows

Well, goodness, that was fun. I’ve watched the first season of the Thirteenth Doctor with wonder and delight. What a gloriously seamless transition from all those Mr. Doctors to the very first Ms. Doctor. But more than just swapping the Doctor’s gender, what the new season has done is open up the series to a whole new universe of stories it couldn’t – or just wouldn’t – tell before. The lovely Rosa Parks episode. The powerful Partition of India episode.

Plus, don’t think I haven’t missed the couple of casual lesbian characters to pop into the series all matter-of-fact so far. And, oh yeah, I’ve noticed the double rainbows in the Doctor’s outfit. (On her shirt on and on her zipper – and apparently on her upcoming super rainbow scarf.) All the way, folks. All the way.

What makes this season so great is not only that it’s telling good (and important) stories. It’s that it is telling a whole new group of people – who so rarely get themselves as the heroes of their own stories – that they too can save the world.

My Weekend Crush

Kittens, I am unabashedly excited about this and I want everyone to know it. Now I’m already Doctor Who fan (having finally watched every.single.episode from the Tenth Doctor on – I’m working on the Eccleston season, I swear). But this Thirteenth Doctor, well, she certainly is something. And, believe you me, I love all the loaded language in these trailers. Who is in charge? She is. It’s about time. Damn right it is. Or, as we should say, it’s about timey-wimey. Happy bring on the new Doctor weekend, all.

Doctor Yes

Oh, I get it. This is what those kids felt like when they walked into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for the first time. Pure wonder, pure imagination, so much excitement. All the idiot fanboys who soiled their knickers when Jodie Whittaker was announced as the Thirteenth Doctor can kindly fuck off and continue to live their miserable joyless lives in silence. No one wants to hear it. We’re too busy exploring new corners of the universes with The Doctor. (And, with any luck, the Doctor's Wife. Ahem.)

Doctor Feels Brilliant

Ugh, is it fall yet? The more they tease us with little tidbits of the Thirteenth Doctor, the more excited I get.

I’m into it all. The coat, the boots, the suspenders, the rainbow top, the multiple ear piercings. Oh, yeah, you know I love those piercings.

And now this new logo. Yep, I’m in. Bring on The Doctor. And the creeping excitement you feel thinking about watching a female Doctor on TV for the fist time? Yeah, that it is a reminder that representation always matters.

p.s Straight white dudes feel like this all the time and they still aren’t happy with the world? Sheesh.

Doctor Feels Amazing

Oh, brilliant. A new year, a new Doctor. Suck it, dudes, your favorite Time Lord is now a lady. It only took 54 years and 12 other men to come to this version of Doctor Who. I’ve come to the realization that any piece of pop culture that makes the fanboys irrationally angry (see: “Ghostbusters,” “The Last Jedi”) makes me incredibly happy. So I have no doubt that I will enjoy Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor. And I very much look forward to what she can do. With Tardis or without.

p.s. Love the look, especially the multiple piercings and – of course – the suspenders.

The Lady Doctor Is In

You gals, you gals, WE DID IT! We ruined more men’s childhoods! A round of high vaginas to everyone! It only took 54 years, but finally we have a female Doctor Who. Yesterday it was announced that British actress Jodie Whittaker will pick up the Sonic Screwdriver as the 13th Doctor. Of course, now they have to turn it onto a Sonic Melonballer or something because ladies and boobies and such. Duh.

I’m not familiar with Jodie (I never watched “Broadchurch” or “Attack of the Block” or any other “Black Mirror” episode than “San Junipero”). But folks who know about these things seem very pleased about her casting and I am as well. I have not been a huge fan of No. 12, Peter Capaldi. He is so terribly grumpy. But I love Pearl Mackie’s Bill and very, very (very, very, very) much hope she stays on as the Companion. A white female Doctor and a queer woman of color Companion? YES, ALL OF THE PLEASES. The casting also sets up some delicious queer possibilities. Hello, sweetie – bring on River Song, bring her now.

So it seems my plans to make an all-female reboot of everything ever (“Ghostbusters,” “Star Wars,” now “Doctor Who”) is going along swimmingly – except for that whole presidential election hiccup. *stares into the endless abyss of reality and then looks back at my television* Obviously, man babies are already upset about this because there isn’t enough to be upset about in the world already. Because, sure, a more than 2,000-year-old alien who regenerates into new bodies and travels through all of space and time fighting other aliens and future and past humans and all manner of in between in a blue police all box that is bigger on the inside is totally believable as long as he is a dude. But as soon as The Doctor is a women, hold on now, let’s get a grip and go back to reality. Right. Got it, fellas. But, hey, you know what, I am 110 percent for ruining more grown men’s childhoods to make little girls this happy today.

Suck it, haters. There’s a new Doctor Who in town and she is gonna turn that Tardis into a blood yurt like all women have dreamed of for always. *witch cackle* *puff of smoke* *hail of tampons*
