About Last Night

Right, so all of you kittens across the pond can just cross your arms and feel smug for a for being way ahead of me. But I’ve just fallen for Lucy Spraggan. The UK “X-Factor” contestant sang her way into you Brits hearts way back in August. But this Yank was slow to catch on. And in fact would still be oblivious if I hadn’t lazily clicked a video link I found while dawdling researching on Tumblr. See, procrastination pays off! Click play and lose your heart as well.

Things you should know. 1) She is gay and came out when she was 14. 2) She pulled out of “X-Factor” earlier this month due to illness. 3) She reminds me of clever a little gay Lily Allen. That last part is just my humble opinion. But, goodness, if her song didn’t put a smile on my face. And all I needed to see were her trainers (sneakers, to us Americans) to know she was definitely family. Adorable, hilarious, very talented family. Happy Wednesday. Now who needs a drink?

Smug? Moi? Never! ;)

Actually, I'd never heard of Spraggan until now, so thank you darling.

What a great little performer! Had that audience right in the palm of her hand! :)

No darlings, I do not live under a rock. I simply refuse to watch televised talent shows. Snobbery has nothing to do with it either. You see for every Spraggan or Boyle there are hundreds of poor talentless or mediocre schmucks being ritually humiliated (actually poor Boyle was rather humiliated herself wasn’t she?) in the name of public titillation and, more often than not, in order to add yet another digit to the odious Simon Cowell's bank balance. And boy does that old rogue not drag out the torture too! Week after week of the repetitive rubbish when surely a one hour show would suffice? Of course Cowall -the consummate Masonic business man- makes sure to squeeze every last penny out of the poor schumcks before he drops them like discarded Royal wives...

Mercifully one does not have to endure Cowell or his garbage, as thanks to efficiency of the Internet and lovely people like Snarks, one very quickly becomes alerted to the presence of diamonds in rough like Ms Spraggan. ;)

Snarks, as we’re on the topic of British music there is one thing puzzling me of late: Why so little love stateside for the super talented (and super lovely!) Emeli Sandé? I should have thought she’d be right up you Yanks’ alley? Or is the big ol’ US of A only big enough for one British Adele with a big voice?! Look darlings, she changed her name (just for you!), she’s black and she’s Scottish – surely even you lot can tell them apart?!

Yes that’s right; you saw her cashing in at the Olympics (like so many others). I for one am not going to hold it against her. For now. Good God, I’m smitten... :/

And now for the anglophiles - some lovely regional accents!

What a stunner! And what about that gorgeous hair?!

Cool thanks for the line. Too bad it is the cliche drunk lesbian. But the song was hysterical.

Wow you really are behind the curve. I'm not from the UK and I heard this woman sing this song months ago.

If you thought that was good, check out her singing 'Tea and Toast'. http://youtu.be/mc4JJ4nIRk4

Dorothy, darling, thank you for this - I'm not in those parts (of the world) and hadn't seen her earlier. And - PING! - now I'm a fan.

It really sucks cuz I'm a Brit, I've heard of her (saw her on the show) and she's one of the team but I really don't like her. She came off very arrogant to me and singing songs about getting drunk isn't my cup of tea.

Try Jade Ellis instead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-7C1umP8fo also a lesbian. In a long-term relationship with her partner and had a daughter with a male friend who they're raising together though the dad is still in the picture from what I read.
