My Weekend Crush

See, I was serious about bringing the funny. Margaret Cho has been one of my favorite comedians since I realized that people could stand in a room with a microphone and make you laugh for a living. My sister and I still quote one of her earliest bits about, well, a chicken head. Heck, I was even one of the dozens and dozens of people who watched her ill-fated 1994 sitcom “All-American Girl.” Of course, I’m predisposed to love the incomparable Ms. Cho because she is a fellow Asian-American sistah. Kimchi in the house, y’all.

Over the years Margaret has emerged as one of the most gay-friendly, gay-inclusive and just plain-old gay comics around. She identifies as queer and always used “us” or “we” when referring to the community. She is also a feminist, diversity advocate, stereotype stomper, sex-positive champion and – bottom line – fucking great comic. Hear her talk about GLBT issues and you hear the best way to tackle ignorance, with righteous indignation and a good laugh.

So I was particularly happy to hear that Margaret is getting another TV show, and this time on her terms. VH1 has greenlit the new reality show/sitcom “The Cho Show.” The series “chronicles her interactions with her friends AND her beloved parents.” I am so already there. And, if nothing else, I am forever indebted to the Notorious C.H.O. for giving me the best way to blow off unwanted attention. Sorry, no speak English! If you can’t beat the stereotypes, use them to your advantage. Happy weekend, all.

Ha, I watched All-American Girl too. I seem to remember that the grandmother was hilarious. It's a bit fuzzy, though. Cho is brilliant. Among a few of my friends, if someone needs a laugh, all one has to do is scream, "Her fucking pussy exploded!!!!!"

I loved the bit Cho did about her mother and gay porn magazines. You know, they like ass.

What I was really hoping for was Cho in her black leather outfit. Yummy.

If you missed the run of All-American Girl, it's available on DVD.

I've gone to all of Margaret Cho's tours since "I'm the one that I want."

Because I am immature and scatalogical references make me laugh, my favorite routine is where she talks about a botched diet where she ended up soiling her pants in her car.

My favorite line from All-American girl was when the grandma said "We waited 3 days for grandpa to come to dinner. We wait...we wait... Turn out, grandpa dead!"

I went to see her standup and the lines sometimes pop up in my head, causing me to laugh in inappropriate sitautions. Especially the line "I'm here to warsh yer vagina"

Oh Cho...

"So I was drinking tequila, and I was drinking grappa, which is Italian for gasoline, and I was drinking Jägermeister, which I believe is the liquid equivalent of Wonder Woman's golden lasso, because it will make you tell anybody the truth for no reason whatsoever. "You have really bad skin. Thanks for the drink."

M.C. from Drunk With Power

LOVE her.:D

Oh my, Ms Snarker is a fellow Asian American!?! I never knew that about you. I'm a cancer, we're supposed to be soulmates or something. Just sayin...

I remember All American Girl too. Discovering M.C. was a bit of an awakening for me. I love that woman.

I don't want to live in a world without "Kimchi in the house, y’all" T-shirts. That's just negligence.

i saw Margarets Debut of her new show "Beautiful" as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (she was the chief of the parade) and i laughed the entire time, it was so funny.

Very gay show, some of my favourite lines were about how anyone without a dick should leave a gay club at dick o'clock (which was at about 12:15) and that they should arrange for a fag hag shuttle bus to pick them all up at the kerb and take them to a safe house to watch sex and the city. Also she declared that a drug bust that was made in Sydney the weekend before Mardi Gras was a hate crime.

So so funny.

You are Asian?

I'm at a loss for words.

So am I, but I never suspected. I guess we chalk another one up to prejudice.

At least, we have Jane Austen to redeem us.
