A ‘Wanted’ woman

You know what, this ain’t too shabby a birthday present either. Angelina Jolie from her new action flick “Wanted.” Well, after looking at that, I’m pretty sure I want something. Ahem.

I watched the trailer for Wanted a couple of times yesterday. I love to watch AJ kick ass.

Ok, so I enlarged it, but ONLY so that I could read the Latin on her arm: teneo vestri vox. So, er ok. Maybe some other latinist here can come up with a better translation, but I get: teneo-I have, vestri-your (plural), vox-voice. "I have your (pl) voice." huh?

Happy Birthday and thanks for the blog!!!

I think I might be alone here, but I no longer find AJ hot. Her personal life and her constant media presence turned me off a while ago and no amount of her movies will change that especially not ones that don't seem that intriguing to begin with (sorry Wanted - I don't want you).

Yahoo Answers says that Teneo Vestri Vox means "know your rights".

"Tua nosce iura" is a more exact translation, but Latin is anything but exact. Looking way down the list in my Lewis and Short Latin dictionary, vox does have the meaning of right or authority, so ok. I can go with that. Thanks Vikki. Sorry, my geek is showing.

Happy Birthday! Your blog is the best in format, design and especially content. I look forward to the evryday read. You're funny and clever as well.

Canonfodder's translation is actually dead on."teneo vestri vox" doesn't mean anything. It is a very bad attempt at Latin. I hope this isn't actually tattooed on her arm!

teneo=i hold
vestri=your (plural)
vox=voice (nominative a.k.a. subject case)

Wow. Can you say stupidstupidstupid?

believe it or not, teneo vestri vox means know your rights...and how do I know????
well...
angelina has another tatoo on the back and that tatoo clearly has written "know your rights", and under that "teneo vestri vox"...
i think I solved that mistery...and I can't translate anything from latin...lol ;)
I just like the movie :))))))
