Blair House

Selma Blair made her red carpet debut for the first time since being diagnosed with M.S. at the Oscars last week, and she flawless. No, wait, that’s a silly thing to say because we’re all flawed and weird and imperfect creatures. Instead she was amazing, which we can do and regularly do – or at least the best of us do. It’s also amazing to hear her talk about her life and diagnosis with M.S. on “Good Morning America.”

Now, you may ask why we should care about Selma Blair as queer women. But besides her iconic snogging with Sarah Michelle Gellar in “Cruel Intentions,” Selma is a reminder of how vigilant women need to be about their health. Because if a woman as famous as Selma can be pish-poshed by doctors and misdiagnosed for years, well then we all can. And the other reason is because she can work that cane with a ball gown or a suit and tie. So, you know, throw a little Gender Fuck into this Thursday Tuesday for good measure. Like I was saying, amazing.

The fact that is so clear that everything is done for men, built for men, symptoms that are publicized are men’s symptoms (“classic” heart attack symptoms are not symptoms for women) and it just makes me angrier and angrier at the patriarchy

Carmen if that were true men would outlive women but the opposite is true. Theres a much greater injustice when it comes to income inequality. Poor people can't navigate the system like wealthy ones do. People are being priced out of getting quality care and its sickening.

Sad. I have seen the same over and over; MS, Parkinson's, Cirrhosis, Fibromyalgia and wven something as simple as Psoriasis or eczema can be totally misdiagnosed (or that's just a small rash...). I hope this does.raise awareness and we need a non-capitalistic way of combating those on both ends of the monetary spectrum to get the help they deserve!

Btw, thank you! I did not know about her battling this and do NOT watch TV often anymore. I appreciate you posting this for more awareness.

Selma Blair played the original Queen of the Amazons in a Season 5 episode of "Xena: Warrior Princess", so yeah she's pretty badass!!!!!!!
