Vacation Vixen: Gillian Anderson

I’m not even kidding, when is “The Fall” coming back? I seriously cannot wait to see Gillian Anderson on my teevee again. Also, only mildly related because it involves a British crime show with a strong female lead, has anyone watched “Happy Valley?” Looking for new things to watch as my vacation continues.

I loved Happy Valley - i watched it not so very legally because I loved Sarah Lancashire in Last Tango in Halifax so so very much. Have you watched Broadchurch? Also a great show and worth a watch (esp before the American version starts - Grace Point, I think?).

Loved "The Fall." Loved "Happy Valley." Talked a lot about both on my own blog.

Well, I tried watching "The Fall", but I can't stomach one more show that focuses on the rape and murder of women. I hope the second season focuses on some other kind of crime.

If you fancy something a bit more light-hearted whilst you wait for The Fall you should check out The Amazing Mrs Pritchard. It's another one written by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley and Last Tango...) and has a top notch cast of British ladies - Janet McTeer, Jane Horrocks, Carey Mulligan, Jodhi May and Meera Syal.

Only six episodes and you'll find them all on Daily Motion.

Happy Valley is sooooooo good.
I had no idea. I was hooked in the first 5 minutes and then I couldn't stop thinking about the series after I finished it so I'm watching it again. I watched Sara Lancashire play a tough brave vulnerable Sargent who gets her ass kicked and kicks ass way before I knew she was in Last Tango in Halifax - I now have an established lesbian fan crush on Sarah Lancashire. I've been trying to watch as many Sally Wainwright shows as I can.
I am anxious for The Fall to return as well. I agree with an early poster who is sick of watching violence against women for entertainment - and I think the show is pretty creepy - but I am interested to see what they do with Gillian Anderson's character.

I had the pleasure to see Gillian Anderson live in a London play of 'A streetcar named Desire' just a week ago. Although I was quite devastated afterwards - Tennessee Williams, y'all -, I really enjoyed GA as she was dominating each of her scenes like a force of nature. For all you Brits fans out there, the play is still on until the 19th of Sept, you can get your tickets via eBay, as they are otherwise sold out. (Sorry, not meant to do product placement à la Rizzles, but GA's too good to miss...)

Yes, 20 years of fangirling have finally come full circle. Sigh...

Happy valley is excellent. Sarah Lancashire is awesome. Always has been - always will be. It's gritty stuff!

Happy Valley was as good a police show as I've seen. A bit grim though. Lancashire was fantastic.

If you can't get to see Streetcar at the National Theatre (London), you might be able to get to a NT Live screening - they are all over the globe. I think, even in the US too!

I've been to many of these now, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. It's great for those of us in the provinces.

having seen some fine thrillers like engrenage....spiral , the fall, the killing and the bridge ( swedish- danish) flics on netflix, I would say Happy Valley beats them all due to witty sayings lanchashire says...the acting is fine in all shows but the injuries are most realistic from a medical standpoint in Happy Valley.
Hit and Miss is excellent too with a tranny hit man.Hope we get more shows with strong women in top roles because they command the scenes like no one else does!

hit and miss was filmed about a mile from my house. it's not nearly as bleak here as it looks on that show!
