My Weekend Crush

I realize, looking back at my posts this week, I’ve been in a rather black and white mood. Perhaps it’s the stress of moving or the nostalgia of finding remnants from one’s past. Either way, it’s made me a little monochromatic. But this weekend, I will bathe in the delicious Technicolor waterfall that is “Pushing Daisies.” The series kicks off its final three episodes Saturday night, so it will be a bittersweet exercise. But I plan to put on a brave face and indulge one last time in the cotton-candy ephemera that is this show. As I’ve said before, the denizens of The Pie Hole simply make me happy, like eating ice cream and petting puppies and spotting rainbows on a sunny day happy. This Seussian fantasy for grown-ups will live on to its fans as a glorious moment when whimsy met intrigue and got wrapped up in a quirky blanket of adorability. That this show got cancelled too soon is a given. That it got made in the first place is possibly the biggest fairy tale ever. Watch at 10 p.m. the next three Saturdays on ABC. Oh, Olive Snook, I think I’ll miss you most of all. Happy weekend, all.

this is so weird, I already saw the last episodes on german tv months ago!

I will miss all of them, especially olive and lee pace, who I happen to have a bit of a boy crush on (he was so beautiful in "soldier's girl").

I'm telling myself that I'm happy for the chance to see the last 3 episodes, but I'm mostly still really grumpy that they canceled such a wonderful show. Grrr! I love everyone on it! And at least we finally got to hear Jim Dale say "Aww, HELL no!" That fills me with such.... glee! (Yes, I'll be watching that too)

I was smitten with this show the first season it aired and abruptly stopped watching cause I knew the powers that be could not let such wonderfulness stay on the airwaves- lest those airwaves become contaminated by such wonderfulness. Then everyone would demand wonderfulness all the time instead of steadily gulping down handfuls of mediocrity just because.

YES! I totally forgot these ep.s were coming up, so swathed in mourning was I. But anyway... thank you for reminding me, and I will definitely be tuning in. It never was a surprise that the show got canceled, though I had hope; how do you find your audience when you're the only show like THAT that was EVER on the air?

I couldn't agree more.

We get invested in such a wonderful show and then it is yanked away from us too quickly. And the stupid execs wonder why tv ratings are down so much? Well, it could be because we know that once we begin to like a show it will be cancelled. I mean really, who are these Nielsen families and what are they watching if so many shows are getting cancelled?

Ugh, I am so conflicted. I love this show. But I boycotted ABC when they dumped Dr. Hahn from Grey's Anatomy. Do I give in and watch the final three episodes? Do I continue to say "frack you ABC"? I dunno. But for sure I will miss this show. Is there anything better than when Olive busts out into song? I think not.
