Must-Not-See TV

I believe I may be one of only 16 people not watching American Idol tonight. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m not always watching TV. Sure, I have what some might call and unhealthy obsession with some TV – cough, Tina Fey , cough, food shows, cough – but really I’ve cut down dramatically over the years. Now that I’ve Monday morning quarterbacked all of the season finales to my regularly scheduled programming, I’m left to listen to my co-workers talk about the finales to their shows. And it makes me realize how much TV I don’t watch. Like these five shows.

American Idol

I watched part of the last few weeks of the first season. But since then, not so much. If I want to hear karaoke, I’ll go to a bar. At least they serve drinks and someone might fall off the stage in a drunken stupor. Also, I don’t want the child to win.

Desperate Housewives

I’m not really into soaps, either daytime or nighttime ones. Also any series where the cast is more famous for its off-stage drama than its on-stage drama makes me cranky.

Grey’s Anatomy

My sister loves this show. America loves this show. I love Sandra Oh and Sara Ramirez. I do not love this show. However, I may tune in Thursday to see if Callie and Erica get it on like Donkey Kong. What? I’m shallow.

Lost

God, are they still on that island? Plus, didn’t “Gilligan’s Island” kind of do it first? I’m just saying.

24

If I want to see terrorists and a crazed cowboy running around chasing supposed evildoers, I’ll tune into CNN. The addition of Cherry Jones and Janeane Garofalo gives me pause. But that dude just gets way too much done in one day. He makes me feel lazy. And who needs that?

Don't care for DH or 24 and Lost "lost me" (no pun intended)last season...
I'm definitely waiting for Grey's Anatomy finale...i'm that shallow too :)
but i'm afraid is gonna turn in a big old disappointment as usual... all this lesbian teasing smells to much of rating-stunt for my taste.

My sentiments exactly.

The only show from those five that I watch is Grey's anatomy.

I don't watch TV show, mostly because it would require 48 hours-long days!

And because most of the time, they are DUBBED. Quite simply unbearable. Lipsync ewwwww.

I think I might be shallow too and find a way to watch the final ep of Grey's Anatomy...

I agree with you on all counts except 24...though admittedly I don't watch it on tv, I just wait for my brother to buy the dvd & borrow it off him & watch it over a long weekend :)

I'm on of those 16 people. I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one at work who doesn't watch any of the shows you mentioned, especially American Idol, which, for some crazy reason...always reminds me of a song by Green Day...

I'm right there with you on all five shows, and despite the fact that I had no desire to watch American Idol last night myself, I was forced to listen to it as three of my neighbors, each on their own apartments, watched it at full volume.

I agree with you completely. I don't watch any of those shows. I watch Will and Grace most every morning then the tv goes back off for the day. Sure if someones watching it something and I come in the room I'll sit with them. Seems like the only way to "bond" with people anymore. It's sad.

Wow Dot, you and I have the same taste in shows not to watch, except that I got suckered into watching Lost by a misinformation campaign and well, I'm obligated to keep an eye on the gorgeous ladies still remaining on the show...cough...yeah. But otherwise I'm with you on your choices of what not to be into and yes I'm going to be watching G. A. to see if there's anymore kissing to be had, because sometimes I'm shallow too...but only with TV shows...yeah. BTW, there are ways to watch episodes of most shows online for those fortunate souls who have cut the umbilical cord to the TV...cough...or for those who have missed an episode of something...just sayin'.

Except for Grey's, I don't watch the rest either. Don't get the fascination with Lost (actually watched the first couple of episodes, and I was starting to get lost myself).

Not in your list, but don't watch "Heroes" as well.

Well, 16 just went up a notch because I'm right there with you on all counts.

Can't stand Idol and I'm right there with you on soaps.

When DH came out I caught a few episodes and I really liked what I saw, but I just can't break myself into watching soaps. I love the ladies from the show, but I can only take so much of it. 24 I watched for a while, I like intrigue like that, but it soon got tiresome. There is absolutley nothing in the world that anyone could bribe me with to get me to watch LOST. I watch Greys on an off but same thing as 24, it gets tiresome after a while. I like Meridith and Heigl and Oh but I can't take that much of it.

Now Family Guy, I can't get enough of LOL.

I love Lost! Evangeline Lilly in nothing BUT a tank top and sometimes she gets naked and plays with boys, which yes, is gross, except she's naked. And there are so many attractive girlies on the island... Elizabeth Mitchell gets my heart all sorts of a flutter.

But the rest of them, yes, not so great. And I don't blame you for watching Lost, it's kind of gotten lame as of late.

You demonstrate, Ms. Snarker - once again - your superior tastes :)

But American Idol is on the wane. The stats say the numbers are dwindling. But I've NEVER EVER watched it. Who's David? Do I care?

Desperate Housewives I tried watching, but it didn't take.

24 just exhausts me. I've even wondered if it isn't abuse of the actors - especially Keifer Sutherland - to put them through so much torture - simulated though it is.

Lost has only ever crossed my screen while channel surfing. Cannot for the life of me figure out the appeal of it.

Grey's though - Season 1 & 2 was a blast. Season 3 sucked big time. But, like you - I will be glued to the TV for the Finale this week. Erica Hahn is growing on me :)

I think you're on to something...I don't consider myself a 'watcher' of any of those shows. Like, most people and most of the commenters above, I heard about the Callie/Erica and I'm only tuning in for that. Grey's isn't really hard to catch on...they're basically in the same plot place they were when it began.

Also, Terri Hatcher scares me. She looks like a zombie.

LOL, DS! I don't watch any of those shows either. I did watch Lost during the 1st season, but then I missed a couple of episodes and got, well, hopelessly lost. The X-Files, or BtVS, it aint.

Count me in. I am not a regular viewer of any tv shows you listed, though I did give them a try...with the exception of 24, Kiefer Sutherland just does not do it for me on any level.

I don't care who wins on AI. Lost lost me too. McDreamy and Grey are like nails across a chalkboard for me so though I like the other cast of characters it is hard to put up with those two for an hour.

But I am interested in whether GA is just doing a ratings stunt or putting down the foundation for a real storyline.

I will admit to watching American Idol, although I stopped voting several seasons ago. This year, I don't even care who wins, David or David. I probably wouldn't buy either of their CD's anyway. Besides, I much preferred the Carly Simon throwback, Brooke White.

As for those other shows, I've never once even cared to find out who was Lost and why. Although I love Sandra Oh, Grey's never kept my attention. I just couldn't get into it. The other shows listed never seemed quite "my cup of tea" and I just never bothered with them at all.

Quite frankly, I prefer to read interesting blogs or watch the vlogs on AfterEllen.com.

I am one of the 16 too. I'm with you on all of these shows actually though I have watched the past few episodes of Grey's to see what they do with this Hahn/Torres thing. So far, I am very unimpressed.

This is me turning on the T.V.:
"What? Not Tina Fey?" off switch. It's that simple. Though I do like The Office sometimes...
