Yes, her, again

I will have a full Straight Gals Acting Like Gay Gals Oscars Edition post for you kittens tomorrow. Also, you can hope over to AfterEllen later today for my Oscars recap. But right now, right now let us luxuriate in the wonder that is Meryl Streep’s “surprise” third Oscar win. Look, absolutely no offense to other two-time Academy Award winners like Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Jessica Lange and Hilary Swank, but it’s about time Meryl FUCKING Streep had more shiny naked gold man statuettes than you guys. And, while she has those 17 nominations, the last time she actually won was 29 years ago for “Sophie’s Choice” and 33 years ago for “Kramer v. Kramer.” So, thank heavens it was “Oh, no! Oh, come on, why? Her – AGAIN!”

One more, and she’ll tie the great Katharine Hepburn. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t bet against her.

I'll be honest: I was so happy I cried. Meryl is an alumna of my alma mater, so my social media sites EXPLODED when she won. It was glorious.

I have complete faith that she will tie Hepburn in time. And, really, you couldn't write film history better.

It's not like it was a suprise: Biopic!A Different Accent!Physical Transformation!
The Academy looooves those overt performances. That's why Tilda Swinton (We need to talk about Kevin) and Carey Mulligan (Shame) weren't even nominated. I won't even talk about Drive (a fucking masterpiece) that got no nomination at all. Rant over.
Sorry for once, I disagree with you.
Nothing against Meryl, she's great but I thought some nominations were missing.

So, I haven't seen The Help yet (sorry), so I can't comment on Viola Davis' performance. The Iron Lady may not be the most spectacular film, but Meryl's performance was amazing. She owes a lot of it to her excellent make-up team, but there were so many moments that reminded me of my grandma, it was astonishing. Sure, she has the fireworks that Oscar loves, but the small physical moments just blew me away. I came out of that movie not comprehending how the Oscar could go to anyone else. She's just brilliant. And so adorably humble!

Ok, and how fantastic did Glenn Close look?!
