The longer “The L Word” is off the air, the more I realize how much I crave lesbian content. Any kind of content. Even the kind of content where a long-term lesbian couple faces mid-life troubles when one partner begins an affair with a man content. This makes me feel a little sad for me. But mostly, it makes me sad for our entertainment landscape. I mean, is “The Real L Word” really all we have to look forward to on the horizon? Deep sigh. Man, I should really start watching “Skins.” Or just move to Britain.

Red delicious
Look, I know things probably don’t end well here. While I haven’t seen the French film “Nathalie” on which “Chloe” is based, I’m aware that the various couplings the characters find themselves entwined in are not – shall we say – ideal. But at this exact moment, none of that matters. Nor does the 25 year age difference between Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore. Nor do the probably less than good intentions behind these actions. Nope, mostly what matters is that these new production stills of Amanda and Julianne together are gorgeous. Delicious. Magnificent. Open thesaurus, point to “drool.”
"natalie" was very good. the attraction between fanny ardant and emmanuelle beart was very subtle/fine (my english is to bad...). and there was only one shy hug (as far as I remember).
ReplyDeletethis looks like a totally different movie/story!
I too am hungry for lesbian content, but I don't think I will watch "chloe" or "the kids are allright", I'm tired of all the lesbo/straight drama!
Guh--this post is made of win. They are very "delicious" together, despite the age gaps and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the lesbian content, too. Although it might creep out some adults to watch Skins (because it's about teenagers, played by barely-legal teenagers), I personally think it's one of the best lesbian representation out there right now. I recommend it!
i agree with alicia. i love skins - its the most "healthy" and realistic portrail of lesbian relationships on TV right now.
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of Skins fans--the first two series are on Netflix watch now. So... do.
ReplyDeletegirl, I feel you pain!
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me to the core when I stop to contemplate the entertainment landscape and the almost complete lack of real lesbians anywhere in site. A few years ago I ordered almost every lesbian film I could find online. There was a lot of crap in there, but some real jewels emerged, and I treasure those as some treasure diamonds. There are some days when I don't even want to see a straight couple, and on those days I watch those movies.
ReplyDeleteAs for this film, Julianne drives me mad, so I must see it. I am prepared to be pissed for a bit at the end of it...it's the least I can do as the good little masochist I appear to be.
seriously why arent you watching skins already anyway? its way more interesting than anything on american tv.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Skins before, but, of course, now I'm gonna see it! And Julianne Moore makes me drool, so I will totally watch anything with her in it - no matter how lame the ending might be!!!
ReplyDeleteTrailer addict - International trailer, TIFF Premier, etc.

I was lucky enough to see the film 'Chloe', and I have to tell you all that it was amazing. Not only does it have great lesbian content, but it's a great psychological thriller. Everyone is in for a real treat!
ReplyDeleteI also have that the story is only loosely based on 'natalie' and is essentially an entirely different story/film.
I can't wait to see it again!
*LOTS AND LOTS OF HEAVY BREATHING*
ReplyDeleteI have seen Nathalie, and let me tell you, the remake has taken some liberties of interpretation. Which is fine. They've taken some subtext and made it main text, like Xena fanfic, which I enjoyed more than the show, btw, back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I'll run off to the theater to see this movie once it's out, but I might saunter if I'm passing by. Unlike White Ribbon...that best foreign film oscar nominee that I am dying to see.
babs, I was all excited about Fanny Ardant and Emmanuelle Beart until I got to the "only one shy hug" part, and all my hopes were dashed! I'd still like to see it, though. At least the new one looks like it has...much more than just a hug.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome pictures. YUM.
ReplyDeleteOn the other note about lesbian content... I'm not THAT desperate for it, to be honest. I saw a clip of it in a class today and had to laugh at the preposterousness of it... And I felt a little embarrassed. I admit it. I find ridiculous lesbians worse than no lesbians at all.
Well, I crave so much for lesbian content that I recently started watching Il Grande Fratello, which is to say, the Italian version of Big Brother. --' Unexpected love between two ladies developed there and they're gorgeous. Go, Sarah and Veronica! <3
ReplyDeleteAnyway, no matter how lame that is... I would rather have it than anything Ilene Chaiken decides to give us. She does more wrong than she does good.
MJNuts
Skins is, after all, teh awesome.
ReplyDeleteseriously, I'm the only one a bit creeped out by the fact that they look like mother and daughter?? ok, not creeped out enough not to go see the movie.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling.
ReplyDeleteDo watch 'Skins'. It helps fill the gap left by the L Word a little.
that.
ReplyDeleteis.
so.
hot.
Really, I don't even care about how this Chloe character seems to be freakin' crazy, I'd just watch the damn film to see them kiss.
and I'll probably watch The Kids Are Alright, because Julianne Moore drives me crazy.
saw it the lesbian sex scene was hot (love moore) and the movie way better than the boring nathalie...
ReplyDeletei'm french and can't stand ardant and beart (minus8 femmes)
Speaking of all the lesbo/straight drama Babs... in most lesbo TV, there is always predictable drama. Would it kill writers to let someone have a happy life? For example, despite her georgeousness, I got tired of the hang dog, weepy, unhappy, unfulfilled Jennifer Beals as Bette. A few more seasons of that would have permanently malformed her features.
ReplyDeleteAnd why is it that, every time someone enters into an unusual menage, it follows that somebody gets hung out to dry, or worse? And, so far, the "Real" L Word just seems like a weak sister compared to what it could have been.
