So, you know how sometimes you get this image in your head and no matter what you do, you just can't shake it? Well, I've been having one of those, but thankfully in a good way. Wait, check that, make that a very, very good way. It all started when super smart, super snarky journalist and frequent "The Rachel Maddow Show" contributor Ana Marie Cox started posting her series of bedhead pictures.
Ever since then I've had naughty, nerdy thoughts about her and Rachel...together...possibly naked...definitely talking about politics. Hello, nerdgasm. Look, I know Ana Marie is straight and married (despite her seriously lesbian hair). And I know that Rachel is partnered and happy (heck, they even just bought a TV). But, seriously, how hot would that be?
Not quite getting the picture? Maybe this'll help. Ana Marie even made Rachel blush. Just imagine they both have bedhead. And instead of teabagging, they're talking about something two gals might be able to do together. I can't quite think of the term, but you all are such cunning linguists (ahem) I'm sure you'll think of something appropriate.

ReplyDeleteI can see how their banter could be conceived as flirtation, and I think that Ana Marie Cox is Rachel's straight girl crush. Ana Marie holds her own with Rachel and Rachel, too, likes a smart girl. Insofar as Susan's feelings are concerned, I doubt she feels threatened as Rachel's devotion to her is very clear.

Ana seems like she has that straight/straight-reading bi girl thing for cute butch/androgynous women - see, Ellen, Shane. And the poster above nailed it when they said that Ana is kind of like Rachel's straight-girl crush.

When Ana Marie made her very first appearance on Rachel's show she had, actually, quite god awful dowdy hair. The next time she appeared, she had the wonderfully improved short do. I think two things happened: AMC noticed her hair looked like shyte on the TV, and she also noticed what would appeal to Rachel's demographic. I think AMC totally plays up the gossip of a vibe between her and RM for kicks, and for a following. In other words, pretty savvy. RM likes smart women, and I think she does have a lil ol' crush on AMC. it's very cute and she can't really hide it. It's all over her face. However, that doesn't compare to how she feels about her beloved Susan.
ReplyDeleteI agree there's some definite energy between the two, but I don't think Ana Marie is gay. She did definitely go a little (ok, a lot) more hipster since hanging with Rachel on the show, and actually dresses more like her (Rachel). Maybe it is just seeing herself on TV and wanting to cultivate an image. I'm sure she's smart enough to know Rachel tapped into a civics geek-friendly audience and that's obviously Ana Marie's target audience as well.

Cox and Maddow flirt with each other, I noticed that months ago, I thought I had gotten it wrong, but did some google research, and found out I wasn't the only one who had noticed that. It is actually very cute.

ReplyDeleteAllright. I'm thinking it's the other way around now...that AMC has the hots for RM. AMC was recently in the studio with Rachel, and was kind of a nervous mess while Rachel was all business and playing it very cool. I think AMC has been on a couple of times since, and Rachel is definitely cooler than she was when things seemed to have peaked around teabagging time and Orzag's berries. Maybe she's been reading various fansites about the chemistry that seemd to be between them and wants to put an end to that little rumor. I do think AMC is way flirtier to Rachel than the other way around. Rachel's just cute and polite and that may be taken as flirtatious. It's not like she asked AMC out for drinks or something. ;o)

It's her show, she likes girls so flirting might be taken more seriously and would be more disprespectful to her gf than Ana's flirting would be to her bf I guess. Ana Marie is known for being flirty and pushing it as to what she can say (e.g. berries) so.. I mean she can get away with lots more on a TV show which isn't hers.
