Hello, herstory. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but forgive me – I’m feeling my woman today. So hear me roar. It only took our country 227 years to elect a woman as the presidential candidate for a major party. Five more months, and we can make it truly official. So, until then, please enjoy all these amazing women talking about women’s amazingness. A United States of Women? Hell yeah, I’ll vote for that.
p.s. This video, this fairly innocuous statement of female empowerment, currently has 638 likes and 1,806 dislikes on YouTube. So, tell me again how there is no pervasive sexism and misogyny in our culture.
p.p.s. This is a really, really great video about the history made last night. Thanks, Hill.
Thank you women of the USA - from a woman in Africa.
ReplyDeleteI got all teary eyed when Hillary talked about how she would have liked for her mother to see this
ReplyDeletethe comments under the youtube video are absolutely vile.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't get it. Voting for Clinton is not feminist. She's a centrist, neo-liberal war monger who is directly responsible for policy and actions that have caused the death of so many women overseas. She's using you to get elected. She represents the worst of the old school political establishment and I don't get why progressive people would put their critical thinking on hold to do the mental gymnastics involved to see Clinton as a progressive force. I respect alot of what you write but maybe you should put your uncritical Clinton worship on hold for a moment and read this book:

Hey anonymous,
ReplyDeleteYour tin-hat is showing, re: your choice of publishers.
Stop getting into an overhyped fash (Scots word, look it up), and face reality: politics should be about the best person for the job. There is currently no-one better for the job of POTUS than Ms. Clinton. Mr. Sanders is only a little better suited than tRump. If you don't like that, if you lost your temper just reading that, it's because you've chosen not to face reality. Mr. Sanders pushes pipedreams, friend, and there are none of them (not one of his promises) that he can realistically deliver on. He doesn't have the party backing to make any of those promises a reality (here I'm saying very kindly that you and your friends have no clue about how your politico-legislative system works. Get educated).
In other words, he's a typical politician, no better and no worse than the rest: he's a professional liar. Quit thinking he's a saint, and you might just realize that if you don't vote for HRC (just hold your nose and do it), then you're gonna land yourself and the rest of the world with tRump for the next 4 years.
Have a nice day now.

OK, I know this is completely ridiculous, but I read those YouTube comments and I was, like, surprised by the solely misogynistic comments. I figure no one else cares to handle that tar baby.
