So, now that we’ve had a semi-intellectual discussion about “Blue Is the Warmest Color,” let’s talk about what we really want to talk about. The sex. Yes, it was long. Yes, it had unexpected ass play. Yes, it featured unrealistic reverse cowgirl scissoring. But you don’t have to trust me on this. Trust a bunch of other lesbians instead.
My favorite comment: “She also just ate all that spaghetti.” Yep, about right. About right.
I would just like to stand up and be counted as a lesbian who likes scissoring just fine. I mean, it's not the be-all, end-all sex act for me or anything (and I do, just like the rest of you, get puzzled and frustrated by everyone else's *obsession* with it), but I have had plenty of super hot, non awkward, scissoring experiences. We don't have to totally disavow it, guys! It's like ass play -- no one should be a jerk if you don't like it, but there's no reason to go around saying "nobody likes anything in their butts ever," either.
ReplyDeleteThat said: serious legit point with the sex position infomercial comment. when i think of athletic sex, i don't generally mean calisthenic yoga.
My fav: "I have my own cookbook, thank you."
ReplyDeleteacting? it is what it is
and also .... think about the e coli poisoning people!
Okay, here is my bottom line on this: While I enjoy all the discourse about what the lesbians do in bed and what-not, I feel like the singular point is really Does this scene fit with the movie? Even if *you* have all of these positions in your repertoire, is this how your first time with a girl went down?(no pun intended) I honestly can't imagine that it was true for anyone, and for a movie strove to remove *all* artifice in every other aspect of the movie, I think that was significant. That one porn producer on the panel kept saying "I thought it was hot" which did nothing to dispel the notion that the scene was shot like bad porn, male gaze, blah blah...I like hot sex scenes as much as the next gal, but this one didn't draw me in as much as repel me so that I was chortling in my chair.
ReplyDeleteThe movie was all Cinema Verite, avante guarde-y and then in the middle the director thought, Hmmm I want to film a beautiful, well-lit, lengthy sex scene where the women are like statues (seriously, he said that). It's just freaky and out of place.
And that for me is the sole problematic issue. (Oh, and that I found it overly long and frankly boring--but I'm willing to say that's just me.)
I liked this panel though. I felt like, overall, they had a lot of on point comments. Ella Boureau did make the comment that though one may discover things they like as they go along, they probably didn't start eating ass right off the bat (or something like that)
Okay, next! Did you see Concussion?
'Concussion' is good, quite solid. Utterly distinct from Blue, though the core being the sexual desire and personal growth...
ReplyDeleteHa! So, the clip I was referencing was the *other* lesbians-talk-about-Blue-Is-The-Warmest-Color roundtable. http://www.afterellen.com/watch-now-lesbian-sex-demystified-on-huffpost-live/11/2013/
ReplyDeleteYeah, this one was funnier. The HuffPo one was smarter. :)
I really want to watch this and read your review but the movie doesn't come to my town for another week. Trying to stay strong until I see it.
