Between Voting Rights Acts gutting yesterday night, Texas abortion bill voting shenanigans last night and SCOTUS marriage equality rulings today, I fear the only winner when all this is over will be wine. So until we know, let's all have a glass (who cares that it is 7 a.m.) and hold hands. I'll be back here after the decision comes out to cheer/jeer/get drunk with you all.

Yes, we won today. Yes, we have to keep fighting. Yes, there are 37 other states where marriage equality needs to be secured. Yes, employment non-discrimination needs to be secured. But today, we fucking celebrate.

Today EQUALITY won! SCOTUS ruled on the side of equality! It is a joyous day, in particular after the SCOTUS failure of yesterday with their 5-4 decision on the VRA.
ReplyDeleteI was born in 1965. It is simply amazing to me to see the progress made in my lifetime--it's an odd yet very joyful feeling to witness nothing short of history unfolding before my eyes. Everyone does realize, this SCOTUS decision is the sort of thing our grandchildren and their children will read about in their history books someday, yes? YES!

I've lived in California all of my life, and I was so disheartened and horrified to see Prop 8 pass, but today I am overjoyed to have it finally die when faced with equality. I cannot wait to legally (YAY!) marry my girlfriend!

Seriously, the best summation of the past two days! Raising half my glasses to Edie, Wendy, Gabe the Intern for saving a man from deportation, the gallery full of Texans last night, and of course, my girlfriend. I must say, though, there are tears in the other half for the VRA decision yesterday. I will be happy for today and fight on for everyone's equality!
