So much gets said about the internet. That its anonymity breeds angers. That contempt and callousness reign. That it reinforces and rewards the worst in our nature. All of this can be true, sometimes. But the internet can also be a place of endless wonder. A place where people can find each other and feel a little less alone. A place where strangers reach out to help other strangers. A place where a ridiculous request can be granted out of selfless generosity. A place where you can start a fundraiser to raise $2,000 and raise $13,288.

I can’t begin to express the gratitude I feel for all of your donations. I can’t because, for once, I cannot find the words. And for someone who trades in words daily, that’s saying something. I am humbled and amazed by your kindness. It is the very definition of an embarrassment of riches. Because of your contributions not only will I be able to buy that laptop I set out to buy, I can pay off that persistent debt that has been plaguing me. Thank you does not even begin to cover it.

I will begin working on fulfillment of reward perks soon. Though I do not expect to get them all finished until after I return from the BlogHer conference in New York in the beginning of August. But, rest assured, they are coming. All 278 of you will hear from me soon.

So now, as promised, I will fulfill my end of the deal and let you see me. I haven’t posted my picture for all these years for a variety of reasons. Privacy, shyness and a belief that what is written is more important than who writes it. But, I also know that after all this time together, people get curious. Who is this person? Is she who she says she is? What does she look like? Well, I look like this. Yep, that’s my big, goofy face.
