The Unsnubbed

You know what I get a lot of emails saying? “You should write more about [insert beautiful, talented woman’s name here].” People are always asking me to write about their favorite actresses, singers, shows, athletes, authors, younameit. I don’t mind this at all. I’m just one person and, clearly, I am not omnipotent to even the tiniest degree. So I like being alerted to folks I may be shamefully ignoring. That said, there are certain people I purposely ignore, without the slightest hint of shame. Though I actually don’t get too many requests for those people. Not too many Kardashian fans read my blog it seems – imagine that. So here then is a round-up of some of my most frequently requested blog snubs (or just woefully underrepresented ladies), my reason for their previous snubbing and my heartfelt apologies.

Stana KaticI don’t watch “Castle.” And that’s the one and only reason why. Because, seriously, that bone structure – yum.

Crystal ChappellI don’t watch daytime soaps. And I don’t watch online soaps either. Jesus, I can’t even get through my DVR queue of nighttime shows.

Laura Sánchez & Marian AguileraI don’t speak Spanish. And my need-to-watch list of English-language shows is already ridiculous. Otherwise PepSi all the way.

Anna SilkI don’t know why I waited to write about “Lost Girl.” And I have even watched all the Bo & Lauren bits on YouTube, some multiple times. Those two together? Dead sexy.

Paget BrewsterI don’t have a good reason, again. And I’ve been watching this show for years. But I’m not sure how much longer I can hang now that she and AJ Cook are gone. Plus that new girl? Words cannot express how much I loathe her father-daughter vibe with Joe Mantegna. LOATHE.

So, kittens, who else have I missed? Who needs to bloglight shined on her? Remember, check the tags. I actually have written about a shockingly large number of ladies. It’s almost like it’s my jobs.

Who's the redhead in bottom picture?

  2. Anonymous10:39 AM

Rhona Mitra. She's unbelievable. She's also seems to have the worst team of agents ever, she's said before that her team turned down the Julia Stiles role in the Bourne films amongst other things. :(

    You don't watch Castle?????????

  4. Anna Torv.

Ha ha! Just kidding! You write about her a lot, and let me just say, I LOVE IT EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. So hey, it's been like a month or so. How about some love for Fringe getting renewed for season 4? Let's all hope Anna Torv will be in a tank top again SOON.

I love that you covered Paget Brewster! She and AJ Cook really made Criminal Minds for me. I also hate the new girl.

  6. You've covered both Rachel Maddow and Ana Marie Cox but you've never said anything about the brilliant and beautiful Melissa Harris Perry.

Since you've watch (multiple times) all the Lost Girl YouTube scenes of Bo and Lauren, you cannot exclude Zoie Palmer from this list. SHE is the steam driving that 'ship!

    Dr. Hotpants FTW!

  8. Alex Kingston. Just...there is NEVER enough Alex Kingston anywhere. There can never be enough...

But yeah. She's hot and she always plays badasses.

what about Pauley Parette from NCIS and Anna Torv from Fringe (blond.. not faux brown whatever).. both strong beautiful women

I'm personally a very big fan of Mary McCormack (who's awesome in or out of a tank top, FYI). And here lately I've developed a huge crush on Cassidy Freeman's character on "Smallville," Tess Mercer. She's got that bad-girl-I-want-to-reform-but-maybe-not-completely-because-she's-so-badass schtick down cold. See for yourself:

I <3 you so much for this!!! Paget was - beyond being gorgeous, particularly when she speaks French. UNF - the reason I watched Criminal Minds. Now that she and JJ are gone the show is just not worth watch. And Stana!! What's not to love. She speaks 5 languages, loves archery and falconry and motorcycles!!! I totally understand you can't watch everything, but thank you for giving these lovely ladies a nod!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous11:43 AM

Hurray to whom ever posted "Dr. Hotpants FTW"!! I Totally agree! I started watching Lost Girl for Bo, and then totally fell for Lauren. She's the reason I watch now!

    (Also, you don't watch Castle???)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sela Ward. She takes my breath away, and is old enough that I don't have to feel like a perv when she does. Simply gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have only recently started watching Castle, and so I only recently developed an appreciation for Stana Katic. And by "appreciation" I mean "all-consuming lust."

Ms Snarker, there's no excuse for not watching Castle. None at all...

  20. I hope you consider writing about Paget Brewster and Stana Katic soon. You could even write about them together...and I'm not going to get that picture out of my head for the rest of the week. PS - I think it's breaking a Lost Girl rule if you put Anna Silk up without Zoie Palmer, just saying :)

    Madeleine Stowe

Just a few, hoping to inspire you.

  22. Lenora Crichlow and Elaine Cassidy. They're both brilliant actresses and sexy as hell. Plus, they have gorgeous accents. You should also be giving Karen Gillan more love for the same reasons.

You can actually watch the entire PepSi saga on youtube with subtitles in one afternoon (that's how I did it at least). The clips are under a user names pepsienglish2.

Oh and Stana Katic playes a lesbian who seduced Selma Blair's character in a movie called "feast of Love" It was a small role but fairly important to one of the main character's overall arc. Plus Lesbian Stana Katic character = HOT! (you can watch a clip of all her scenes on youtube as well).

  24. Emily1:28 PM

I agree with anything said about Rhona Mitra- that woman is to die for. Also, a few more ladies to check out if you have the time:

-Kristin Kreuk (I will always be in love with Lana Lang)
-Laura Vandervoort (I know you don't watch V, but seriously, she's worth it)
    -Serinda Swan (watch Breakout Kings!)
-Jessica Stroup (90210 is an excellent guilty pleasure)
-Lyndsy Fonseca (and Maggie Q, for that matter; Nikita is awesome)

I'm sure I could think of more, given a little bit of time. ;)

  25. I second Mary McCormack, and add Amanda Tapping (from Stargate SG-1, and now Sanctuary).

    ReplyDelete
  26. Legend of the Seeker (R.I.P.) Tabrette Bethel and Bridget Reagan. O.M.G. Chicks kicking ass in LEATHER! Why did this show get cancelled? Lezzies should've been all over it!

    Sorry, forgive my frustration! lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous2:07 PM

I've seen Amanda Tapping mentioned, and I definitely second that!

And I also second Bridget Regan and Tabrett Bethell! And Bridget produces Camp Wanatachi about the two girls who fall in love at bible camp! As if she wasn't already awesome enough as Kahlan...

And I'm adding Joanne Kelly and Jaime Murray from Warehouse 13. All kinds of awesome, and with such fantastic chemistry.

Also, Claudia Black. Doesn't get more kick-ass than Aeryn Sun.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous2:46 PM

It's been said, but it needs to be said again: "You don't watch Castle?!?!?!"
Forget that it's named after the male character, don't go into it thinking that it's going to be ANOTHER cop/murder show, and then just sit back and watch Stana Katic. It's funny, it's fun... it's only fault just now is that in Australia Channel 7 are playing it at 10.30pm on Sundays and I can't wait up that late :(

And, if it's suggestions you're after, then my Fake Tv Wife, Sue Perkins, is my suggestion. I could get very deep and start to talk about her as a performer (I love that in this age of reality tv, and people 'being themselves' on tv, she manages to be playing and 'letting go', even when apprantly appearing as herself, etc, etc)but her other major asset is, well, to be shallow, she's hot. And queer in real life. And, according to Wikipaedia, she was outed by her ex who was on Big Brother - classy, classy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm so happy to see someone else hates Seaver as much as I do. Garcia and Reid are the only things keeping me around.

I agree with the Mary McCormick suggestions. I'd also like to add Tamara Tunie (Medical Examiner Warner from SVU). I'm dying for a storyline where she and Olivia hook up. They had such a good chance with last season's finale...

    pauley perrette from NCIS!

  31. tornainbow3:26 PM

Here's another for Bridget Regan! And that can't go without Tabrett Bethell. More important than just being hot on screen, she helped raise money by setting up 30min Skype sessions with fans who gave sizable donations ($250). On top of that, she's been giving her fans MORE talk time than just signing off at the 30 minute mark. I can't help but really appreciate the celebs that put in the extra effort for their fans. :)

She also plays a short role in "The Best and the Brightest" with NPH and Bonnie Sommerville (how I've missed her from "Cashmere Mafia").

She's also aware of her gay fanbase, and loves them so. If, by chance, you find the time (if there are other Seeker fans, it's the last Attack of the Show interview), she talks about it in this interview around 2:16 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb0TXYkWBKo

And, for the benefit of people who haven't seen anything to do the Seeker show, I like to use this vid as an intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBqHvdbCK_Y

We can always use more fans. ;)

I'd love to see you write about:

Teryl Rothery (Janet Fraiser from SG-1),
Gillian Anderson (she just keeps getting better and better with age!!)
    Carla Gugino
    Amanda Tapping

And you really should watch Castle. ;-)

(I will never understand what the big deal about Paget Brewster is. She does absolutely nothing for me. They should have let her go from Criminal Minds and kept AJ Cook.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous5:18 PM

Oh it made me so happy to see Pepa and Silvia on your blog for once! Seriously, I know there's a lot of girls on TV to get through but those two are an awesomeness that must be seen. You're missing out BIG TIME. You can watch it so easily with english subtitles on youtube! It's an essential part of the lesbian tv oeuvre!

It can't possibly be overstated: Stana Katic! Few actresses can play a kick-ass, intelligent, sensitive character with the same level of expressiveness. She can convey exactly what her character is thinking and feeling, and do it without words. Not to mention she is just sexy as hell! *drool*

    ReplyDelete

Stana Katic is my current favorite TV actress, but my heart will always belong to Gillian Anderson.

  40. Carmen SanDiego7:20 PM

I second whoever mentioned Melissa Harris-Perry, formerly known as Melissa Harris-Lacewell.
But isn't this excess of ladies to talk about an awesome problem to have?

  41. Shasta8:22 PM

It took me all the way down to Wendy Crewson to find someone you've never mentioned... Miracle Laurie? Eva Green? Yup! Even Lena Olin! Oh Lena Olin's arms... Next might've been Romola Garai (hey alex dumas, get out of my brain!).
Need Wendy Crewon incentive? Yeah, standing with Elizabeth Mitchell will do it!

  43. Ahemmm...You forgot Beth Riesgraf, she plays Parker in Leverage. Sometimes I cant help but notice she look like Heather Morris. Oh well Parker is soo awesome and hot!

  44. How about some love for Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Robin), Chyler Leigh (Grey's Anatomy, Lexie), and Beth Riesgraf (Leverage, Parker)?

Nobody asked you to writte about Maca & Esther (Hospital Central)???

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous1:31 AM

Kim Dickens, of course! The woman played gay (Deadwood), seems to be gay, and is all in all one of the best actresses around. Plus, you know, stunning!

Also, with all the love for Imagine Me and You, I feel the gay sidekick, i.e. Eva Birthistle has been seriously underrepresented here (or anywhere) ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous9:05 AM

Another vote for Bridget Regan and Tabrett!! I know the show was cancelled and the writing was terrible, but you just can't ignore women in leather kicking ASS. Besides, I don't know about Tabrett, but Bridget is known for being supportive of the gay community (Camp Wanatchi= christian lesbians)

they must learn, they can't get any kinds

    of affection by bothering.

Referring to the first poster's question, I do believe that the redhead in the bottom picture is Marián Aguilera, not Rhona Mitra.

Among other things, Marián Aguilera played "Silvia" in the Spanish t.v. show Los hombres de Paco, and it would make sense that that is Marián Aguilera, as the other woman in the photo is Laura Sánchez, who plays "Pepa" in LHDP.

Ditto Anonymous' Hospital Central/"Maca and Ester"/Patricia Vico and Fátima Baeza comment; if it weren't for the success of their storylines, which started in 2004 and continued until 2011, there would have been no "Pepa and Silvia" (aka "PepSi") on LHDP and no "Marina and Esther" on Terapia d’urgenza.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous8:20 AM

Yet another vote for Bridget Regan and Tabrett Bethell from Legend of teh Seeker. A show that came from the makers of Xena and actually didn't have lesbian subtext but actual lesbians kissing. These two actresses also seem like the sweetest nicest people to their fans and for that reason I will always support them.

I agree with all of these choices, with the exception of one.

However, I would just like to point out that even though you can't speak Spanish (my ability is poor, to say the least) there are youtube clips of PepSi online with subtitles. That's how I watched them. :)

    P.S. I don't watch Castle, either, it's okay.

Yay, Crystal Chappell made the blog! Now you just need to add her former Guiding Light and current Venice the Series co-star, Jessica Leccia to the list too. Hot, hot, hot, in the afternoons. Well, not so much since GL was canned, but still. And the web series is pertty good too, considering it's a web series.

  67. Yeah, Lost Girl is one of my favorite shows right now. I'm so sad that we have to wait almost a year for it to come back. Cue crying. Dr. Lauren makes my heart pitter patter and I aim to dress as awesome as Bo. haha If you haven't seen the actual show you should totally watch it. I'm a fan of the weird love triange (even though it's uneven bleh) becuase I like watching Lauren and Dyson fight over a lady. It's great.
