Sick sounds

Yesterday I stayed home sick. It wasn’t fun sick, where you throw on your jammies, watch daytime TV and get reindoctrinated into the Oprah cult. It was more like my body’s been hit by a truck, then backed back over, then hit again and then called a friend to come and hit me with another truck. I don’t think it was the flu, just the beginning of allergies. It’s basically spring here and everything has decided to bloom and mold all at once. So I took a bunch of Benadryl and basically was passed out all day. This is fascinating for you, I know. But bear with me. What the day did give me was the chance to listen to a lot of music, because I was too tired to watch TV. I could only handle once sense at a time: sounds or pictures or smells or touch or taste. So I listened, and when I got tired of my CDs I turned on Pandora. And then Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” came on and I remembered, in an instant, why music could be so exciting. That driving beat, that commanding voice. So I dragged my weary body up from the bed, popped on iTunes and bought her new album “21” on the spot. So good, kittens, so good. So now, I’m passing my find along to you. You shouldn’t have to get hit by a metaphorical truck to enjoy some damn good music. Though, with a voice like that, it’s almost the same thing – though considerably less painful. Enjoy.

  3. I think I almost want to volunteer to be your 'Britain coach' so that you're not behind on any of the talent we've got going on. Adele's a long-time favourite (aren't I cute, with my little 'u' in words where they aren't needed? Shucks!) of mine.

DS, if you're sick, you should find Adele concerts on the Internet to watch. Between her amazing voice and her hilarious banter between songs (she could not be cuter), it'll cheer you right up.

    Here are a few recommendations:

    1. Adele's NPR Tiny Desk Concert

    2. Adele Live at the Tabernacle in London (Full Concert)

    3. Adele in concert from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City

  8. I've been obsessed with this song for the past month or so. Thank you for highlighting it-- I'm glad it helped get you through a hit-by-a-mac-truck sick day.

You should also check out this one of Adele... Someone Like You

it's her singing on 'Later Live with Jools Holland" and it is extraordinary. Even better than the studio version, in my opinion. I've been super obsessed with that one, too.

I picked up the disk last Wednesday (it came out on Tuesday)...outstanding sound!!! What a delightfully gorgeous sound...it's infectious, it's haunting, it's what music should be...for folks who haven't heard the rest of the album, you're missing out!

  18. Wow! I never heard of her before. I have been completely obsessed by Linda Eder - and can't wait to get my hands (once I have money) on her new CD Now (reunited with ex-husband Frank Wildhorn for more broadway-type songs). But this was excellent. Will have to look her up tomorrow. Time for bed now. Thanks!
