Twice as nice

Hey, did you know two “The L Word” alums had new shows coming out in the next few weeks? Of course you did. Did you know one show is about cops and the other about lawyers (or former lawyers)? Of course you did. Did you know the actresses in question are Jennifer Beals and Sarah Shahi, two of the most scrumdiddlyumptious of the former TLW castmates? Of course you did. Well, fine, know it alls. Tell me which show will be better then?

I’m in the process of getting screeners for both shows (so with any luck I’ll have reviews for you when they premiere). But for now, based on their promos, which show are you most excited about? Jennifer Beals in hot cop mode for “The Chicago Code” or Sarah Shahi in hot mediator mode for “Fairly Legal.” I suspect your answer will hinge on whether you’re in a suit or pencil skirt mood. Or whether you prefer a gal in her skivvies or an elbow to the face. But either way, it’s lovely to see these actresses return to on our screens soon. Welcome back, ladies. Never leave us like that again.

Fairly Legal, Jan. 20 on USA

The Chicago Code, Feb. 7 on Fox

Right, so now I know all of you are going to cheat and say, “Both.”

Not sure I'll end up watching either because of scheduling, etc., but I get a big kick out of Sarah Shahi's wink and Jennifer Beals's Chicago accent. Good times.

As much as I like the idea of Beals playing a butch cop (because, let's be honest, that's how they all end up coming off), I think I'll be skipping both shows.

Sarah seems more natural in her part whereas Jennifer's "tough look" isn't quite convincing. But I'll give 'em both a try. It'll be nice just to see them both back in action.

I love me some JB but "every cop in Chicago answers to me." puleese - not convincing. Doesn't mean it won't be fun.

However Sarah's is looking sexier, yum!

  12. Dunno, always loved Beals as a power-dyke but something about her face (eyes ready to burst in tears) just doesn't do it as a butch cop. Shahi on the other hand.. hubba hubba..

  14. I never understood the love affair with Carmen that the entire lesbian community seems to have - and after seeing this clip, I still don't. Shahi just comes off vapid and one-dimensional to me. Beals is ok, but she's just too delicate to pull this off, and besides, all cop shows should just pack it up and go home now that Southland is on the air. One, it's a fantastic show, and two, Regina King much? *That's* how you play butch cop with feminine sex appeal. And even Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter pulls it off better than Beals, and she's waaaayyy more of a delicate little beanpole than anyone I've ever seen.

So I guess my vote is neither, and even if someone makes a show with one (or, dare to dream, both) of the eminently sexier actresses from the L Word (I'm talking to you, Leisha Haley and Rachel Shelley), it still has to be good to make me want to watch it. I'm telling ya, watch Southland or Dexter or any of the multitude of well-made shows out there instead of this stuff - now that the L Word is over, we don't have to watch shitty shows out of blind loyalty anymore. We're freer than a credit report (as the Glee Thang video says)!

Beales is from Chicago so you're hearing her real accent.

She was the Grand Marshall of the latest Chicago Thanksgiving Parade, talked up her gay causes to whoever had a microphone and used a rainbow umbrella throughout. Gotta love her!

And well...lol,since I'm from Chicago I'll be watching her show. Not to mention that she doesn't forget where she comes from. In more ways than one. She'll get my support no matter what she does.
