I had hoped that the third Anne movie/mini-series would have been about the union of the two "bosom friends"....clearly, I just needed to look deeper into the first series subtext!
Of course! BOSOM friends! My only bosom friends have been friends whose bosoms I liked to touch. Ah, I love those books/movies. They inspired years of angst/longing. And I think they're why I'm a teacher today.
I recently watched the marathon on PBS and I totally saw the connection between them right away! They were doing subtext long before we had ever heard of Xena and Gabby!
Oh Ms. Snarker you never fail to amaze me. I'm a closet Anne Shirley, et al fan. I've seen all the movies at least 3 times, "it's kismet". Such bosom friends forever, and they totally hooked up.
? Too young to understand...

ReplyDeleteI thought that was Xena and Gabrielle in period costume 'til I read the caption...
ReplyDeleteand anne is still frickin hot...yum
ReplyDeleteI loved that series of books so much..thanks for the memories :)
ReplyDeleteOh! Swoon... I think Anne was possibly my first crush. That irresistible marriage of fierce independence and ginger hair... Fabulous choice.
ReplyDelete"Indeed I will," sobbed Diana, "and I'll never have another bosom friend--I don't want to have. I couldn't love anybody as I love you."
ReplyDelete"Oh, Diana," cried Anne, clasping her hands, "do you love me?"
"Why, of course I do. Didn't you know that?"
Siiiiiiiigh.
Huh!?!...oh yeah...Anne of the Green Gables!
ReplyDelete? Who?
ReplyDeleteOMG! They totally did!
ReplyDeleteSeriously thought I was the only one who though they should have been/were a couple.
ReplyDeleteOh Anne...
very frightening, but probably true...they were kindred spirts after all...

ReplyDeleteOMG, TOTES hooked up! (sorry, I was doing my best high schooler impression... I fear I failed)
ReplyDeleteTotally.
ReplyDelete(And Emily and Isle, too).
Anne was one of my first crushes as well. Red hair is still my favourite!
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure about Anne and Diana, but I have to agree with mousse that Emily and Isle were meant to be together. Teddy was way too moony.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I was just saying that this week and everyone else was like, wtf? Awesome!
ReplyDeletethanks! I needed that total crack up.
