Cherry (let’s hope it’s not a) Bomb

So, I really don’t know all that much about Kristen Stewart. I know she was in a movie I never saw about some sparkly chaste vampire. I know she looked eerily like a young Jodie Foster when she was 12. And I know she sets off all sorts of bells and whistles and alarms on some people’s ‘dar. But, given my limited exposure to her work (tabloid covers don’t count), I can’t share a certain demographic’s instaswoon when it comes to all things K-Stew.

But what I do know is that I love Joan Jett and The Runaways. And, given the current crop of pretty young things, I guess I’m OK with her selection as Our Lady of the Jett Black Hair for the new biopic on the seminal all-girl rock band. Christ, imagine if Megan Fox was picked to play Saint Joan? Shudder. To. Think. Also, am I the only one who thinks she is looking very Shane today?

Granted, when you see the Real vs. Memorex side-by-side, Kristen clearly needs to work on her swagger. Also, does Joan ever fucking age? Holy crap, what devil did she make a pact with and where can I sign? I’d even happily sign on to be a minion.

Then there’s also the business of formerly precocious tot Dakota Fanning playing Cherie Currie. Kristen and Dakota side-by-side look kind of like they’re orphans at the scruffy waif mall instead of teenage sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll machines. I mean, when you’re about as big as your guitar can you really bring the noise?

Sure, Cherie was 15 when she joined the band and Dakota is 15 now. But, um, I hope she’s a quick study in bad-assery.

Well, I guess we’ll find out if both gals can pull it off in 2010. But, for now, I’m going to try to keep an open mind and optimistic attitude about this project.

If nothing else, we can always just revel in the real thing.

Yeah, good luck rocking that garter belt, Dakota.

with the new do she sure looks very shane!

and dakota is a baby. but if cherie was also 15, I'm (not really) ok with child labour...

let's hope the joan jett movie turns out cool!

  3. "Panic room" great one to start with the gaydar but her debut ,one year early, in "The safety of the objects" was one of those who make history.
I guess Rose Troche thought the same when she cast her for the role of Sam (Patricia Clarkson daughter). This character doesn't exist in the book what makes me thing Rose Troche changed it and turn into some "queer thing" cause Timothy Olyphant's character kidnaps (a boy named Erol in the book) her to be his little death bro John.

I have a picture of Kate Moennig as my desktop background which is a bit blurry from resizing, and when my little sister came in and saw it, she squinted and asked, "Is that Kristen Stewart?" And this was wayyyy before the Joan Jett hairdo. It wasn't until she said that that it clicked in my brain where the "dang-she-looks familiar" feeling I had about Kristen came from. So yes...K-Stew is indeed looking very Shane, apparently all the time.

  7. The real Joan Jett... awesome to the nth degree. Swagger, indeed!

  8. Panic Room totally ringed bells, yeah

  9. Well, assuming Joan is the perfectionist that I think she is, perhaps this movie will work out. I'm a tad dubious. That said, Kristen does have the look, even if she doesn't quite have the swagger down. Maybe she should spend more time with her girlfriend (who does have a swagger) and less time with that vampire...er...boyfriend...cough cough.

Yeah I only heard of Kristen Stewart through Twilight, which I haven't seen. I heard her acting in that wasn't great but I'm seriously hoping this movie turns out well since I'm a huge fan of Joan Jett.

Dakota Fanning as Cherie surprised me. And apparently she plays some evil vampire in the Twilight sequel too? I guess she's really trying to break out of her child star image.

  11. Yeah, both Kristen and Dakota need to scruff up badly. But I think it's do-able. I reckon they're both quick studies.

  14. Well Dakota did a great job in Push, where she played a much darker and more grown up role than we had previously seen her in. She's done a few other parts that were more grown up too. Her character in Push was very sarcastic and angry, but also very fragile and vulnerable at times. It was a role that really showed off her acting chops. I think she might be able to pull this off.

  15. I'm actually a fan of Dakota Fanning, so I'm kind of excited to see her play Cherie.

  16. Anyone see Adventureland? Probably not because I think it bombed...

Anyway I thought it was really good and Kristen Stewart surprised me by 1)being good and 2)being attractive. Never really got her appeal before (definitely not into the Twilight thing) but now I'm a fan!

Actually, K-Stew was in The Safety of Objects which has several degrees of Lesbian separation.

    1. Patricia Clarkson was in it.
    2. Glenn Close is also in it.
    3. Rose Troche wrote the screenplay and directed.
    4. Guinevere Turner was the voice of a character.
    5. K-stew's character is a super tomboy and is mistaken as boy in the movie.

The movie is a fantastic drama. Oh and look for Pacey and Moira Kelly.

  18. Here's a few pics of Dakota and Kristen Decked out as Joan and Cherie... hair, makeup, the works. I was SHOCKED that it was Dakota. I never would have recognized her.

    Thanks to Just Jared.

  19. 1) they'll be kissing each other in this movie, where can we put that?
    2) I truely hope it 'll be released in Belgium (where probably no one except me even KNOWS the Runaways)
    3) K-stew looks so much better with black hair and dark eyes.. or is it just the lack of vampireboys and werewolfboys that changes the picture :P
    4) also sqeeing like a fangirl since i saw the news a few days ago =D

  20. In the environment of famous people Kristen Stewart wasn't very known by Latin American audience despite that she's been on the business since long time back.
