Who you calling NewNowNext?

You know that John Mellencamp song “Small Town?” I actually grew up very close to where he was singing about. For real. So when things start to happen, I tend to get that “aww, shucks” feeling I got back in my small town days of my Midwestern youth. And today, today is one of those days. Today it was announced that my little toddler is nominated in the inaugural Logo NewNowNext Awards. I’m up for “Most Totally Rad Sickest Blog Ever,” which is apparently fancy gay speak for “Best Blog.” The winners will be announced during the NewNowNext Awards Show telecast June 7 on Logo.

I am up against three very famous, very formidable, very fierce gay blog. Seriously, these are the big boy bloggers, a veritable who’s who of gay news, gossip and snark. My esteemed fellow nominees:

I feel a little silly being nominated among them, I mean I’m just a gal with a laptop and a dream. Not only am I the only girl in the bunch, I’m also the only non-commercial site. So it’s a great honor to be thought of as totally rad and sick…I think. No, really, it’s kind of stunning, These awards are going to be televised and everything (before you ask, no, I won’t be in attendance. I was invited, but Jodie hasn’t done her thing yet so I had to respectfully decline).

So, what does this all mean for you? Voting! The awards will be handed out in two parts. The first is the “official” awards decided by the NewNowNext Academy (industry types, media folks, Logo staff, etc) and the second is a “people’s choice” award decided by you the internet-enabled masses. You can vote from today until June 7 at the NewNowNext Awards site. I have no idea whether you can vote early and often, but heck give it a try. I need all the help I can get against those fellas.

p.s. Awards are being handed out in 14 other categories with nominees as varied as Tina Fey and Ellen Page to Missy Higgins and Jackie Warner to AE’s own Jill Bennett, Bridget McManus and 3Way. So go get your vote on for all your favorites!
