The androgynous zone

My Tilda Swinton love has grown so exponentially since she won the Oscar, I almost wish I hadn’t Weekend Crushed her already so I could gush some more. But what I admire about her most is that she is a true original. In an industry filled with fake everything -- breasts, tans, noses, personalities -- she is authentically herself. And her authentic self looks fucking hot in a suit. Forget a spoon full of sugar, it’s a big scoop of androgyny that really helps the medicine go down. And by medicine, I mean Wednesday. And by go down, I mean…uhm, well. Enjoy.

And just because a free mind is a terrible thing to waste:

So pleased you broke the drought on Charlotte Rampling.

"I guess I'm a little on the beautiful side," she allows in Stardust Memories - which film is ultimately a meditation on her face.
The wonder of that flick is that her eyes didn't need colour stock for their blue magic to shine through.
If you can find a good capture of the scene in SM where she is reading the paper on the floor and looking up at a table pov, I'm sure everyone will swoon.

And Isabella R? What a beauty too! With one of the most sumptuous voices in the biz.

Bless you, host, for such inspired choices.

Great post! Playing about with gender roles is always hot. I myself am today wearing socks that I bought from a mens clothes shop. I'm so subversive.

I'm so there with you... a woman in a suit is enough to make me swoon.

As for Tilda, there is this quality she has that just oozes sex appeal, perhaps that androgynous quality or the don't give a damn what others think attitude... but whatever "it" is I'm officially hooked.

I'm holding this one against you! You need to issue prior warnings.

  7. There really is something wonderfully sexy-subversive about a woman in a man's suit. Back in the day I bought a second hand tux at a thrift shop in LA and just let me say, I met women in that tux!

Now choking on my office floor, after OD-ing on red heads in suits & suspenders

Also, Shirley Manson is way hotter in real life than you can ever picture, but also waaayyy freakier (as in "she belongs on another planet" freaky) !
And really really tall and really really skinny...

  12. haha that probably why you like Bette so much from the L Word. shes always wearing suits for her work. or maybe its just because its jennifer beals, and well, no suit necessary. i think we're in accordance that flashdance just about covers it. although as a steel worker in the movie, thats rather masculine, so...

Tilda doesn't try to be androgynous, she just is. Scarlett Johansson has more of a Marilyn Monroe thing going on. Just because you wear a suit, it doesn't automatically make you androgynous. But anyhow, cheers for Tilda, one of the few modern mold-breakers.
