So, Rosie O’Donnell called out Kelly Ripa for being homophobic this morning. She accused her of homophobia after Clay Aiken put his hand over her mouth with and she scolded him with a, “I don’t know where that hand has been, honey!” Whether you believe the comment and its ensuing celebrity smackdown was homophobic or not, the most interesting tidbit of this little fracas was both stars' casual acceptance of Clay’s sexuality. As Rosie said:
"If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy that she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing. To me that's a homophobic remark."
Also, it’s interesting to hear Kelly vehemently defend her actions. Does this elevate being called homophobic to the ranks of "Must Reply" accusations? Will she be making a rambling apology on Letterman later? Mountain out of molehill? Or does the “honey” put it over the edge? You decide.
Even more reason to dislike Rosie. For one, I wouldn't want anyone I was talking to to put their hand over my mouth. Rosie making it out to be homophobic is insane. Not to mention she implies/outs Clay. That is not acceptable. As a lesbian she should know that. I have no respect for that woman at all.
ReplyDeletePutting your hand overs omeone else's mouth is nasty. Rosie obviuolsy has her own issues to deal with.
ReplyDeleteKelly Ripa has given her reason for doing what she did but Rosie chooses not to accept that because it is not what SHE believes.
Her level of hygiene may not be as high as Kelly's but is does not make Kelly homophobic. Get a life Rosie!
The comment from Ripa was a tad rude and had some innuendo, but come on - it is gross to put your hand over someone's face, too.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are dorks, and Rosie's over-the-top gay rants are becoming more annoying everyday. Yes Rosie, we know you're a lesbian.
Oh, and nice way to out Clay. Poor guy.
Rosie is a personal friend of Clay Aiken and was simply coming to his defense when he was being attacked. It was Kelly who made it personal against Clay and stirred things up by coming against him the day after the incident.
ReplyDeleteOf course what Clay did was inappropriate but keep it in context. He is not a talk show host, he was nervous as a first time guest host and trying to be funny. He was a bit too familiar and it didn't work as a joke.
Kelly is the more experienced one and not only that, it was shown that she too once put her hand over Regis's mouth! So she's a bit of a hypocrit. It might of been nice had she been more gracious and professional and simply let it go.
I think it was wrong for Kelly to make a point of blasting Clay for what he did the next day. The fact she used Howard Stern as a supporter and someone she'd spoken to in regards to the incident was hardly a great role model for decency and good manners.

My link cut cut off--anyway it is on my blog under "Ripa"
ReplyDeleteI'm not gay, but I know where my hand has been and what it has been doing, so I would never place it over someone else's mouth. It's just plain wrong.
