So now, kittens, I turn to you. Since I can’t properly prioritize my entertainment consumption on my own, I turn to you to help me decide what to catch up on first. Now the email, that’s just going to be catch as catch can. (Another side note: What the fuck does that even mean? Is catch bad at catching?) But the watching, well, here I know you can help a sister out. Currently in my queue I have:
- Catching up on the start of “Pretty Little Liars.” The show started while I was on vacation and, um, I’ve already mentioned that my mom likes to watch Miss Marple, right? I can’t decide if I should give it a shot. But it’s sort of shiny and shallow, with secret girl-girl kissing. How bad could it be?
- Watching “Skins,” like any of it. I have not watched this show, even though I know Naomily is epic. I blame being in America and lazy about watching shows that are not shown regularly on my TV in America. Don’t tell Heather.
- Finishing “True Blood,” the complete second season box set. I love vampires. I love sexy vampires. I really have no idea why I haven’t found the time yet to get through this season. And, yes, I already saw last week’s big WTFityF moment of the current season. Head sufficiently spun. Ahem.
- Viewing the “I Can’t Think Straight”/“The World Unseen” DVDs. I won these thanks to your awesome voting prowess. They arrived earlier this month. Every time I want to pop one in to see the ridiculous hotness that is Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth, I start to feel guilty because I am so behind on (see above).
- Rewatching everything in the “Cinema Pride Collection.” Ten super-duper gay films in one box set: The Children’s Hour, La Cage Aux Folles, The Birdcage, My Beautiful Laundrette, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Bent, The Object of My Affection, Boys Don't Cry, Kissing Jessica Stein and Imagine Me & You. As we speak I am fighting off the urge to pop in “Imagine Me & You” and watch the even ridiculouser (whatever, grammar, it’s a word now) hotness that is Lena Headey and Piper Perabo for the 6,001st time. This could be why I am so behind on everything in the first place.
Oh, I also still haven’t watched the second episode of “The Real L Word.” But there’s one instance where I think I’ve prioritized just right. So, tell me what to do. What should I watch first? Go ahead, boss me around. No, not that way. You’ll have to suggest what movie we watch together and buy me dinner for that.
True Blood FTW!!!
ReplyDeleteHeck if I know; I'm such a terrible lesbian, I don't have plans to watch ANY of that... other than I Can't Think Straight. Also, unlike everyone else on the planet, I HATE True Blood, so I probably shouldn't vote for that reason, too...
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost : Skins.
ReplyDeleteOf course, everything else will seem dull after that
WTFityF? What?
ReplyDeleteSkins! No contest.
ReplyDeleteYes, no contest, PRIORITIZE Skins!!! Seriously, stop what ever you're doing and watch it right now!! I promise you wont be sorry. SKINS, SKINS, SKINS!!!
ReplyDeleteListen to me, Snarker, OK, because this is important: SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS SKINS. Then: Helen Stewart. *ear nibble* *smooch* XOXO!
ReplyDeleteTake Real L Word off your list entirely. I repeat, do not waste your time. Watched it yesterday because, apparently I am a masochist and have not known about it until now. The show is bad, it's boring and not just regular boring but super duper, gouge out your eyes for fun, BORING.
ReplyDeleteI would watch Pretty Little Liars (only 3 eps) and finish the second season of True Blood. You can decide how you feel about Pretty Little Liars and get some True Blood resolution. I'm not sure I like Pretty Little Liars, but if you do you'll be caught up and can experience the show with everyone else. Since you like True Blood, I'd finish off the season so it's not hanging out there.
ReplyDeleteIf you start Skins first it may take over your life.
Um..I think the first one maybe?
ReplyDeletecus you didn't see it,
so what about try something new?
instead of reviewing other things
you already know,
It could be challenge cus if it's not fun enough
then you will feel disappointment especially
there is time limit. simply waste time.
and after that you'll feel anger. why I saw this. etc.
but If it's fun enough,
simply you will have good time.
and will think yourself, yeah, I'm right.
very nice choice. etc
your self confidence about choices high up.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS! PRETTY LITTLE LIARS! Trust me, it'll be your new favorite (guilty pleasure) show.
ReplyDeleteTV...meh. The misplaced, misdone accents on True Blood drive this Southerner crazy.
ReplyDeleteWATCH ANYTHING BY SHAMIM SARIF! You will not regret it. The World Unseen in particular is a fantastic film with great cinematography...plus the inimitable hotness of Lisa Ray AND Sheetal Sheth. DO IT.
skins. skins. skins. you won't be sorry. i have seen all the rest of those things, except for pretty little liars, and skins is hands down where you should start.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the best place to watch Skins?
ReplyDeleteyou neeeed to watch skins, but as it has like four seasons, i'd start with pretty little liars, as it's only four episodes long so far
ReplyDeletealso, to the last anonymous poster, try 4oD (i'm not sure if it will work in countries other than the UK), or http://free-tvshows.com/skins.html
You have to watch True Blood. I also waited months before finishing the 2nd season but you shouldn't wait any longer.
ReplyDeleteWhy? Queen Sophie-Anne. Enough said.
Skins comes in second of course.
imagine me and you for the 6002the time, then i can't think straight..love happy endings...
ReplyDeleteSkiiiiins. You need to watch Skins, and you need to read Heather Hogan and Rophy as you go.
ReplyDeleteI had zero interest in it at first because I am a bit old for teenage angst at this stage, then I read HH's first recap and thought "Hmm...". Then I watched it and it. is. BEAUTIFUL. It will make your life better. It is so good.
(S3&4, obv, because they are where Naomily lies. If you love it I'd do S1&2 after. They can be watched separately.)
Wait! I wanna know which WTFityF moment we're talking about here? Because True Blood is full of WTFityF moments!
ReplyDeletePretty Little Liars for sure!!!!! Oh man its one of my guiltiest pleasures at the moment.... then the Pride Collection and then True Blood cause you already watched some of Season Three.... (as far as Skins goes, I honestly wouldn't know cause I haven't watched it yet :( )
ReplyDeleteBtw have you finished the Daria set?
I Can't Think Straight is one of the only watchable, well-done lesbian films I've seen! The fact that Lisa Ray is extraordinarily sexy doesn't hurt :)
ReplyDeleteTrue Blood also gets progressively more entertaining.
Don't bother with Kissing Jessica Stein - you'll want to punch her in the face. It's a poor rep of queer cinema.
ReplyDeleteSkins.
ReplyDeleteImagine me & you. The unstoppable force. Of course. Although, now I will go and watch Skins somewhere, somehow, since I've seen I.M.&Y. as many times as you have :) And it won't go anywhere...
ReplyDeleteYou gotta watch Skins and "The World Unseen/I Can't Think Straight." Those are some good quality stories.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Skins series 4 was not quite as good as Skins series 3.
Oh and the book that "The World Unseen" was based off of is great! You should read that too!
SKINS! Then True Blood, then whatever. But seriously Skins series 3!!!!
ReplyDeleteSKINS!!!!!!! This is not a jump on the bandwagon suggestion, this is a heart felt plea for you to feast your eyes on the greatness that is Skins. You will be grateful, I swear.
ReplyDeleteSkins - for teenage high quality heart-breaking entertainment and I Can't Think Straight and The World Unseen for grown-up high quality heart-breaking entertainment.
ReplyDeleteYou can catch up Pretty Little Liars via edited sequences of the two girls in 'potential' love. Possible guilty pleasure but didn't work for me.
Jul
Well I won't tell you what to prioritize because I am maintaining two up and coming blogs.
ReplyDeleteHowever I will comment on"
"The Hotness That is Lisa Ray"
I created the the Rani Ray Tribute Page:
http://sapphisdezire.t35.com/
Because it is my hope that Lisa's ardent and faithfull fans will visit the Guest Request links I have posted to the Oprah Winfrey Show and request that she interview Lisa Ray.
Lisa has shown tremendous: Grace, strength, courage and humor despite being diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease. Lisa has also been relatively ignored by lesbian media in the U.S. where audiences tend to favor celebrities primarily of the Caucasian persausian. This regardless of the fact that in TWO Movies: I Can't Think Straight and The World Unseen Lisa successfully challenged cultural norms and assumptions of middle Eastern and Southeast Asian Lesbians. A feat that Padma Lakshmi and other Southeast Asian lesbians refuse to do.
Lisa's challenge with Multiple Myeloma isn’t simple – It’s hard! Not only does she have Cancer, but She also has a dizzying array of treatment options available to her. Additionally, Multiple Myeloma doesn’t solely just affect her health–it affects just about all aspects of her life.
Even though Multiple Myeloma is close to being considered a chronic disease. Living a long time with a serious illness presents its own set of challenges.
As Myeloma patients live longer, What then?
This is why we need to help this Beautiful Soul NOW.
That is where I hope to help—even if just a little by getting people to write to Oprah Winfrey telling her to interview Lisa Ray.

SKINS! NO CONTEST INDEED!
ReplyDeleteaah, screw it. Lena Hedy, baby!!!
ReplyDeleteyou know you want to!
:)
oops. sorry, Headey, I mean. Lena Headey. always.
ReplyDeleteWatch Skins but since you are so short on time, you may want to watch just the Naomily scenes on youtube. Sure the other characters are interesting but you still have to watch the Sarif movies and there's no shortcuts there. Same with True Blood.
ReplyDeleteHold off on the PLL for now...
Skins. It will change your world. Then leave you heartbroken and curled on the floor wishing for more.
ReplyDeleteYou can hold off on PLL. I've already rocked Maya and Emily's mini review, fledgling romance recap on my blog and I doubt the readers here are interested in a romance between two women of color anyway. Isn't that right "Lena Headey " all the way?
ReplyDeleteI like Lena also but "All The Way?" Uh No.
Definitely Pretty Little Liars. It's suprisingly good. And there is only 3 episodes to catch up on.
ReplyDeleteso lame when people misquote your comments and completely jump to all sorts of inaccurate, negative conclusions based on said misquoted comments.
ReplyDeletehypervision
Skins!
ReplyDeleteSeriously: "Skins". I love me some "True Blood", but witnessing the beautiful and magnificent force that is Naomily is much, much, much more important. Heather isn't exaggerating in her fabulous recaps: it really is that good.
ReplyDeleteI Can't Think Straight. Seriously. It's up there with Imagine Me & You when it comes to production values and as an 'ethnic' person (Middle Eastern) it captures certain quirks wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with all of those people who are all "Watch True Blood first!" True Blood is a great show, but every episode is a cliffhanger, which means it lends itself well to marathon watching. If you have other shows to watch, it wouldn't hurt to let True Blood pile up on your DVR and then watch a whole bunch of episodes on some lazy day back to back.
ReplyDeleteI have removed The Real L Word from my dvr....no more!! It's exactly what I expect from IFC at this stage. When I read the blog from one of the engaged girls and saw how UN-real this reality show really is, that tilted it for me. If you are going to lie about people's lives, write some fiction and bring it on! As it is, Ilene can suck it.
ReplyDeletePPL first cos you still can catch up. if u like it stay watching if you dont, go watch skins (seriously, where the hell have u been?) lol and u can also watch true blood in between all this. movies watch it on the weekends.
ReplyDeletewow I'd like to have some of that Cinema Pride collection. hmm..
ReplyDeleteFirst impulse would be Skins as well, S3 10 episodes and S4 8 episodes à 47ish minutes, would keep you busy for a while. :) But not til the movie is released, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteWhy not go for the 1st and 2nd season of Skins for starters. Haven't seen it myself, though it's also on my list (getting longer and longer). I'm sure it properly sets the tone for the goodness to come that is Naomily.
I can't think straight was quite good for the cultural miscommunication. The world unseen was supposed to be epic, not for me. So wouldn't necessarily suggest it.
True Blood? Hmm, skipped it after the premiere. Didn't like vampire Bill forever more.
Skins (1-4)
|| Break, Recaps ||
I can't think straight
|| Maybe read a book to get your mind back on track, yeah, lame ||
Favourite L Word scenes, that you mentioned the other day
|| How can something so good turn it into something so bad? ||
Uff, Summer's over, Fall brings back regular TV, thank goodness. :)
Skins. No, really. You can skip the first two seasons and get right onto the Emily/Naomi bits...and let me assure you, you will want to get onto Emily/Naomi's bits. Especially if you remember the age of consent in the UK is 16! Yes I'm a filthy, horrible person. It's why people like me.
ReplyDeleteSKINS!! MUST!! It's truly epic!
