My Weekend Indiegogo

Remember when I said back in April that I was going to start a fundraising campaign? Guess what, I did it. I created an Indiegogo campaign (like Kickstarter, but without the demand to complete a project). My goal is to raise some scratch to buy a new laptop and software.

As you know, Dorothy Surrenders has never had advertising. I don’t have anything against advertising; it’s an important part of the economy. But that also doesn’t mean I want to have it on my blog. I believe in the importance of commercial-free creative space. I don’t want to have to sell you a feminine hygiene product before showing you a hot lady in a tank top.

Anyway, that was the boring stuff. The interesting stuff is what I’m giving away a bunch of perks for contributing. Swag, Weekend Crushes, an actual physical postcard made from dead trees sent through the United States Postal Service. But, really, what they are is an attempt to thank you from the bottom of my little heart for thinking what I do is worth a few bucks. (And, yes, international friends - you are welcome to donate too.) I do this because I love it. And I hope you enjoy it, too.

So, that’s that. If you want to contribute, you can click here to find my campaign. Feel free to share it with friends, acquaintances and strangers who follow you on Twitter. But, as always, what I am most grateful for is that you take the time to stop here and read the crazy stuff that comes out of my head every day. Thanks for your time. Happy weekend, all.

How much would one have to contribute to get a picture of you yourself? :-)

You are so judgmental. Bloggers don't create only if they are paid first, in fact those ads that appear on blogs barely bring in significant cash. The ads require that they be clicked on first and then they only pay: .01 per click.

In addition there is usually a minimum of $100.00 that must be met before a check is issued.

Can you imagine how long it takes to meet a $100.00 minimum when you only receive .01 per click on an advertisement?

Are you serious? Ha, your worshipers will probably end you the $1,900.00 you are asking for faster than a blogger will earn from the ads on their blogs,

You've never written for money so why start now if you are going to be a hypocrite about it?

Tech Gyrl the ads on your blog suck and are annoying. GO away.

Harsh comments, tech gyrl. Especially coming from someone who can't spell 'girl.' If you don't want to help, don't. If you don't appreciate this blog, don't look. But there is no reason to be a dick as well.
DS if I could afford to help you out a little, I would in a heart beat. I appreciate this space you've created and the words you write. It's a little piece of joy in my life that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. Also, there are ladies in tank tops. ;)

Wow Tech Gyrl, I don't think Ms. Snarker is the one who is being judgmental. She simply doesn't want to have advertising on her blog, though she does want to raise some money. So what?

I'm a huge Capitalist with a capital "C" and have blogs (though not on blogger) with advertising on them, but I'm not offended by someone who doesn't want to do the same AND still wants to raise some money. Did I miss the memo stating that the only correct method of monetizing a blog is with advertising?

I really enjoy this blog (and Ms. Snarker's tumblr) so I'm going to send a couple of dollars her way. Those who don't feel the same don't have to. What's the big deal?

@Anonymous:

What do I have to be sour over? You write like a 12 year old.

See this is what I am referring to when cite the lapdogs who nip at the heels of any person who engages in discourse they interpret as pejorative to their messiah. I have a successful blog and get visitors world wide [Hell you probably visit my blog].

My point [as you've obviously missed it] is that this chick comes off as if other bloggers aren't ALSO doing the same thing for free. She acts mas if the ads on our blogs rack in the big bucks. They don't. People rarely click advertisements that appear on blog. She gives this sob story about "Woe in me I need a new computer." Because she knows that her lap dogs will leap at the oportunity to give her what she needs and whil;e that is a good thing. there ias no need to think that others who have ads on thre=eir blogs are lesser

I don't know if English is your first language, but the next time any of you try to insult me make sure you understand the context of my comment. In fact make sure that you know the definition of the word "context" and it applicability.

@jody and everyone else who responded to my comment:

It's NOT what you think that counts, it's what you KNOW that matters.

They don't. People rarely click advertisements that appear on blogs [How often do you?].

DS gives this sob story: "Woe is me: B/C I don't have ads on my site I don't have money for a new computer." DS knows that her lap dogs will leap at the oportunity to meet her needs and while that is a good thing. there is no need to think that others who have ads on threir blogs are lesser

I'm surprised by comments that suggest Ms. Snarker was in some way insulting folks who blog with ads. I didn't get that out of her comments at all! And in my experience, when Ms. Snarker intends to be SNARKY on a subject, it's obvious! ;)

Nevertheless, DS's witty, daily missives have been entertaining me for YEARS, so I intend to show my gratitude by contributing toward her new laptop.

DS, will you post a picture of your beautiful new machine someday so your geeky followers can clap our hands and squeal in shared delight?!

So Tech gyrl when DS specifically said ''I don’t have anything against advertising; it’s an important part of the economy. But that also doesn’t mean I want to have it on my blog'' You thought she was ACTUALLY saying ''dude, I can't stand those lesser bloggers who have [admittedly pointless] ads on their blogs."? Wow, impressive jump, my obviously-you're-smart-because-you-use-such-big-words comrade. Here I thought my "messiah," also known as some lady on the interwebs talking about gay ladies, just meant that she didn't like ads on her page. Thanks for clearing that up! I was so lost u.til you came in and saved me from a scheming mistress of a blogger. whew!
