My Weekend Crush

If femme Evan Rachel Wood could date butch Evan Rachel Wood, I think they just might make the hottest lesbian couple on the planet. I mean, come on, look at them. Evan debuted her new short crop at the “True Blood” premiere this week to the delight of gay ladies everywhere. She paired her new dapper do with some tailored men’s wear and a cocksure attitude, which is practically a guaranteed formula for weak knees.

There’s just something about Evan Rachel Wood. There always has been, from the moment sensitive Jessie Sammler first realized she may like girls, and kissed one, I knew. She’s different – and not just in that “I used to date Marilyn Manson”-way. She’s different because she never seemed to want to be the next Julia Roberts. She never seemed too concerned with box office potential or landing the next big blockbuster franchise. Yet she still did good work. From “Thirteen” to “The Wrestler” to “Mildred Pierce” and now “True Blood,” she has a knack for finding her own way and making it shine. You want to follow her career because you know it’ll be interesting. It has to be, just look at her – especially in her vest and slacks.

Now you truly believe what she told the Esquire interviewer earlier this year when she came out as bisexual – that the North Carolina gentleman comes out in her when she’s with a woman. “I’m the dominant one. I’m opening the doors, I’m buying dinner. Yeah, I’m romantic.” Honey, you can buy me dinner anytime. Happy Pride Weekend, all.

Mildly irritated by her "Look at me, I'm so edgy" interviews, but LOVE the look.

I don´t know... that Marilin Manson thing was quite weird. She is beautiful and a resourseful actress no doubt, but since I´m unable to "get" her, I´m suspicious enough to not like-like her (if she cares :P )

Yes, I love her look! Hair not so much, but suit + hair + attitude = win!

Agree with you Dorothy, good look on her. She'd have been perfect with Martens on her feet :)

oh, Dorothy. So sad to hear you parrot the nonsense that ERW or any woman who wears a tailored suit is butch. Butch is not a tailored suit, and it is not a tie, though they often go together. Butch is a state of being, an internal state which transcends clothes most of the time. You could put me in an evening gown and I would never be femme, how can you think putting an obvious femme in "butch clothing" would change who she is? First, a butch, as defined by me (admittedly) wouldn't be caught dead in the amount of makeup on her face; a butch would wear a shirt under than vest, with a really snazzy Brooks Brother tie and appropriate dress shoes. ERW will never be a butch. And I will never be a femme. However, a hot femme can truly rock men's suits as you yourself have pointed out on countless occasions. But please, let me help you here: no Shane was not butch, nor were any of the other L word regulars- no not even MAX. Max was trans- not butch. Just because she has come out and put on a suit does not make her any more butch than before she came out and was wearing dresses. Call me, I will happily have a conversation about butch.

Well said Kait. Cute as that vest look is, it ain't butch.

I think ERW tries a little too hard, which is the antithesis of hot. That said, she is adorable in these shots.

I keep hearing people identify ERW as bisexual and yet she never has. In that interview, she only means her attraction to women but she never said what her sexual orientation is. You all are just assuming that she must identify as bisexual and frankly it's annoying. Somebody should try asking her first.

Agree with you, Kait, about butch being an internal state. But then you go and spoil your argument by listing a bunch of external things which define butchness for you. I think a vest can be worn by a butch just fine. :)

I don't think Ms. Snarker is "parroting any nonsense." Butch is about energy. Butch is relative, not absolute. Shane was more butch than all of the other women, including Max, put together. Melissa Etheridge wears makeup all the time, and her energy is butch. kd lang doesn't wear makeup, and her energy is femme. (Relatively. *g*)

There are as many definitions of butch and femme as there are women who consider themselves either, and there are countless more women for whom it has no meaning. *shrug* It's like porn -- hard to define, but you know it when you see it. *LOL*
