Angelina Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, passed away Saturday after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Clearly, no joke there -- just my sympathies. I lost my father, unexpectedly, two years ago. But then, slowly or quickly, I’m not sure if you’re ever prepared for the death of a parent. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai. May love and its ever-present beauty bring peace in this time of sorrow.

A mother's love
